Dimmer Switch fried, WTF?
alright, i was at the junk yard today i remembered that i needed a dimmer switch cause mine didn't work, so i got one pulled the old one out and discovered that they had just jumped 2 of the 3 wires together to get them to turn on.
anyways before i left the junkyard i had installed the new dimmer and when i turned the car on i smelled burning electronics (yeah the dimmer switch) and at night i couldn't see anything cause my H.U.D. obviously wasn't working so i had to hot wire the dam thing again.
anyone know whats wrong??? did i just happen to get a wack dimmer switch from the J-yard?

i would think something like a dimmer switch doesnt go bad usally.. do you have anything else connected to the wires for the dimmer switch IE gauges, lights... perhaps you should look maybe thats what is messing them up

yeah thats what i thought, but nah there is nothign there but the three wires for the switch, and the factory wiring harness was still there, looks like i'm gonna have to bust out the volt meter......sigh....i hate electrical troubleshooting...

Your's probably doesnt work because something shorted it out. Did you fix that problem yet? If not, you have to go back and fix the problem before you install the new dimmer.
The problem could be a grounded dimmer wire from your stereo.

If the factory stereo harness had been cut, I'd start there. On a few Hondas I have bought and the dimmer switch burned up, it was the previous owner that thought there were a "professional" installer, using wire nuts and scotch tape to install the radio.... On every car I get with any harness cut, I go to the salvage yard and get one that is uncut and simply install it. It's fixed it every time....
Harnesses at the salvage will be between 15 and 40 bucks. It goes all the way over to the fuse box and usually runs the instrument cluster, radio, hazard, etc.
