Default D16Z6 Short Block in 98 Civic EX With Stock D16Y8 Head

Hey guys, this is a newb question and I know this has been addressed millions of times however I am trying to find application specific information after reading for hours, even days I still am a bit unsure.

Anyways what I would like to know is: can I drop a D16z6 bottom end into my 98 Civic using all of the stock 98 Civic parts from the d16y8.

From what I have read this can be directly swapped over and I think all that is needed is the y8 timing belt and one of the head studs are shorter?

I am asking this overbeaten question because all of the swaps I see are putting the y8 head on a z6 powered car and they require the distributor and a lot of other stuff to be switched. I am thinking it should be little to no modifications to the wiring harness/sensors/controls to install the z6 bottom end into a y8 equipped Civic?

Thanks for the help in advance!

z6=obd1 y8=obd2a/b so yes there are things that will be different such as the distributer, fuel injectors, distributer, iacv, alternator plugs and maybe the o2's as in afaik the z6 header only had one vs 2 on the y8. it's not a direct drop it

All of the parts that you were listed as different from one to the other will be reused. The car came with the y8 and I will reuse the y8 head/manifolds/sensors so non of the should need chainged. They only thing I plan to change is the bottom end from the original y8 to the z6. Sorry I just noticed in my original title states "Long Block" it should state "short block" or bottom end.

ok in that case you'll probably just need to figure out a way to deal with the different alternator plug and possibly a z6 cam gear.

I would reuse the y8 alternator (might have to modify the bracket) so that shouldn't be a problem. I haven't heard of any differences in the cam gears, you think I will need to use the cam gear from the z6?

You'll have to bypass the CKF as well since the z6 doesn't have one.
