d16 worth it?
I've got a 2000 ex that I've just started to mod- intake, wheels, suspension. My buddy says I swap a b16 or b18, but what's the potential of a d16? I'm well aware that a b16/18 have more power, but it's hard for me to ditch a perfectly good motor. Can I get 175hp out my d16? Any suggestions?

depends on what you want to do with the motor. With N/A I've heard of 200whp. With turbo, I've seen 186WHP with stock internals. So, i believe that 200whp could be achieved with forged internals and a turbo. Youre goals are very realistic

Yea 175 whp is very do-able on a d16y8 with stock internals. Many people have pulled higher numbers than that here too.
If you wanna know more about the D then heres some good links

and homemadeturbo has a lot of good info too...

Have you ever read the forced induction section? lol...
I made 230whp on stock internals and my car has been boosted for over a year. With a good tune you can put down 200whp on a d16 and have it be pretty reliable. You will smoke b-series swaps and it will cost you less money than a swap. Your not going to get 200whp out of your car N/A unless it's a full race car with high compression on race gas.

this is exactly what i was gonna say, especially the bolded statement. I speak from experience because that is where my turbo project failed...

Don't waste your time or money on a swap when you have a perfectly good SOHC VTEC...
This thead is killing me!
