d16y8 Turbo or b16a2
So i have a 1997 Civic ex, d16y8 SOHC VTEC.
I can't decide between a b16a2 or to turbo the stock engine.
At the moment i am leaning toward b16 but i want some professional opinons.
One of my worries about d16 turbo is the stock engine has 135k miles on it and im wondering if it will be able to handle 8 psi without me have to do anything else to it.
Also, in the long run im thinking b16 because i can do way more stuff to a b16.
So i would like to hear what you guys have to say about it.

what is your hp goal? the d series crank is good to about 300hp and the rods are ok to almost 180hp so that might be a limiting factor. although you can get forged rods and 300hp is a bit overkill for a fwd street car.

turbo the d16 and then rebuild the engine thats wut i would do its gonna be way more expensive to get a b16 in there then it will be to build your d16 but it does depend on what your main goals are

he said in the long run the b16 would be a better suit.. so i can assume this won't be a just a 6-month or 1-year project.. probably build it bigger and better as years pass

that y8 can't handle **** though. The y8 is known for doing one thing really well, bending rods(been through several of them myself). I would go with ls/gsr tranny. **** the b16...no torque. Spend the same money on a better piece of clay. just my .02

i cant believe I actually agree with you. If you don't mind I do have a question for you because I have noticed you ls/vtec symbol. Is that what you run?

If you're really set on a swap I'd go with either an ls w/ gsr trans (I'm getting ready to do this exact swap on my 97 hatch), or if you want a b series vtec I'd go with a gsr swap.

We would highly advise you to "Begin with the end in mind."
There are key components to embarking in such a feat:
For example: Your budget, your timelines, your end goal/usage for the vehicle... etc.
It is also a great idea to research some of the other builds/swaps that were already done, and try to learn from his/her experience.
