whether you go NA or boost, i sure as hell wouldn't start with either of those engines lol. At the very least get something with 1.8l displacement, and 2 cams.

Well considering the Y7 block is identical to a Y8 block that'd probably be the better starting platform. If MPGs were a factor then the B7 for sure.

The D15B7 and D16Y7 are probably the worst D series engines ever. The B7 is known for burning oil and blowing head gaskets since they used a paper head gasket, and the Y7 has all the bottom end problems of a Y8 but without VTEC. The D16A6 would actually be the best motor to start with if you're just wanting to boost a stock non-vtec engine.
At the very least, put new valve stem seals in the B7 and a new MLS head gasket and preferably new rings so you won't burn oil or , or shim the oil pump in the Y7 to improve oil pressure to help prevent spinning a bearing.
VTEC is your friend with boost. You want to improve flow to make more horsepower. D16Y8 or D16Z6 heads are pretty cheap, and it would be pointless not to swap one on either motor you start with.
