Default D-series blocks?

So my z6 has a knock and Ive search alot but havent actually ran into which d-series Block is best to use if i cant find a y8 or z6.? I think i came across a D16A6 or D16Y7 being second best, but not sure. This will Not be for boost just daily n/a. Thanks in advance.

the d16a6 and d16y7 are both non vtec so your gonna have to make it a mini me. and i would just go with a the y7 since it gonna be less miles.

you'll be able to find a z6 or y8... they're everywhere... and if you cant find one i have 2 y8's and a z6 in my garage if you want me to freight them to you depending on what you're willing to pay for them

but the y7 will be better to answer your question... and yes you'll just have to pull the oil jet next to #2 cylinder on a y7 or a6

i just got offered a y5 and guessing from your answers this should be a better block then a y7 and a6 correct?

Someone correct me if im wrong but arent all the D16 Blocks the same.... the only diff was the heads that were put on them ?

well the compression would be different in each one b/c of the different pistons that are used.. Right?

yes, and throwing on a vtec head will most likely raise the compression significantly on a non-vtec block..

also z6 and y8 blocks have a better oil pump

y5 are identical to y8 right? except head internals
