crv/vtec??????
Okay... I am ****** confused on what to do now. there is a guy in town that has a crv/vtec motor in is EK. He is tellin me to forget the nos for $500 and get an extra $400 more and put in a crv/vtec block. Now, I have been told that this set up is extremely dangerous. Motors blow all the time is what I hear. But he says he knows many people that have had their daily driven crv/vtec hatches drive around and race just fine. So, should i get one? Basically the motor from nippon would be 800 and the gaskets would be 50 and the oil lines would be like 40 bucks or so. Then I just have to get my friend to work on it. Is it safe? Or should I just get nos.

anyways, any motor can be as reliable as the next.. does it take a lot of knowledge? definately. a lot of maintenance? perhaps. money? no doubt.
always remember the you get what you pay for theory

Re: crv/vtec?????? (jonas)
Im with Jonas on this one, that price you quoted is extremely low.....something sounds fishy. The Ls/vtec topic has been covered to death.......try using the search in regards to there reliability

Dam I hate rich kids who think they know it all.
Don't give this kid any respect. He needs to learn to use the search button.

sounds cheap yes....i'd get NOS and stick with b16a......but b20/vtec is a beast, especially turbo'd...and yes it's reliable, just like LS/VTEC only with more torque.

Just check out the site www.CRVTEC.com as DragonCTR said. It has pretty much everything you need to know about this build.

Re: crv/vtec?????? (Cashis EG8)
I checked the site and it is cool. Got lots of info. But what I couldn't get was whether or not you could just use stock parts. A guy in town told me that if I gave him 900 bucks plus 500 for install, it would be great. All he would do is get the block, gaskets and oil lines. Then he would open up the valve holes by drilling in the head?.... That would be it. Or I could just get the motor, gaskets and oil lines and have a friend do it for free in another city. But I was just wondering if that is a safe way to go?

Re: crv/vtec?????? (hb_racer)
this motor will cost you as fallowed
B20B compleat engine (better to buy it whole)$800.00
B16A (sir1) $495.00 once again better to spend 500 on a whole motor than 400 for just the head
CRV head gasket $50.00
VTEC oil lines $30.00
timing belt $40.00
so you have $1415.00 for the compleat motor you could save the $40 for the timing belt if you reuse the one that comes on the motor (premitted its good)..
if you need tranny and other swap parts this is your cost.
Tranny $650.00(GSR only others have shitty gearing)
shift linkage $115.00 (brand new from dealer)
ecu (P28 or P30) $150.00
axles $150/$300 (depends on kind and where you get them)
misc parts $200.00 (oil,coolant,plugs,wires,ect)
then there is just labor which runs about $500/1000 depending on who does it.
so your looking at about $ 3830.00 figuring high for everything.

With all this, would the swap be safe. See, I have everything but the crv motor. So does all this sound safe????

Re: crv/vtec?????? (hb_racer)
Another very important thing that you need to worry about is the correct fittings. My friend recently got a B20 with a gsr head fully built and runs consistent low 13s. With a little tuning he can easily get into low 12s. Keep in mind that this is all motor.

Re: crv/vtec?????? (maks)
remember the CRV bottom end is not as refined as the GSR, ITR or CTR bottom end so you may have problems in the long run, especially if you are a roadracer where you will spend hours in vtec, pounding the motor. I have been whooped by an untuned CRV/ITR (itr head) combo with a GSR tranny and GSR exhaust, and a cheap freeflow muffler. -->he pulled me consistantly.... there I was lagging behind in my modded GSR.. so I am going to think more about a CRV/ITR hybrid. My problem is that I am a roadracer/trackday *****, and a stock bottom end CRV block will not hold up to a 7000+ rpm pounding for too long.. and it may be costly to beef up the bottom end...???
