clock spring??
ive had my 2000 si about 3 months now. about two weeks ago the crusie control, well more specifically its the resume/accel and set/decel buttons that are located on the steering wheel that are not working. my horns also do not work. so i called the dealership i bought the car from. the guy told me that its probably the clock spring and he went on to explain the clock spring as a spring that returns the steering wheel to the normal positioning after a turn. now i ask the question isnt the clock spring used to make a connection to the air bag? so if the clock spring is broken i could see how my srs light is on. but i am unsure of why the horn and cruise control buttons are not working. has this ever happened to anyone else here? any insight would be appreciated

Re: clock spring?? (undercoversi)
more precisely, the dealer is talking about the cable reel. it contains all the wires to connect your airbag, cruise control buttons, and horn to the rest of the car. it does not return your steering wheel back to straight ahead after you turn. if the cable reel goes bad, then nothing on your steering wheel would be working. i would check to see if its not just simply unhooked first (the previous owner might have had an aftermarket wheel and removed the cable reel, then replaced it before selling it).

Re: clock spring?? (dantastic)
yea i understand what its for but i didnt know that it also connected the horn and cruise control buttons. thanks for that bit of information. as far as it being unhooked i kind of doubt that because the car is completely stock never been messed with. but i am worried it was in a wreck which makes me wonder if the back was not deployed at one point in time. oh well the dealer said he had some cable reels laying around and that he would fix it. thanks again for the help man
