Default Clock spring nightmare

I've changed the clock spring in my hatch several times. It will last maybe a couple of months then my SRS light comes back on. I'm making sure the spring is centered (two turns left and two to the right) and the front wheels are straight. The steering column doesn't appear to be bent and the bearings in the steering column don't appear to be bad. I can hear it starting to bind once the wheel goes all the way to the left. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this. I'm really getting tired of doing this job over and over again
