Default clock resets and die?

So I've searched and searched and came out with nothing. I actually waited very long to post this because I was trying to figure out to solve this.

So I swapped a civic clock into my eg hatch DX - which does not have a clock.

Everything is fine once done.

But then once I turn the lights on it "resets" then goes dim, then blacks out within a second.

But once I turn the lights off. The clock is fine again, but it resets everytime.

I've checked all the fuses in the hood and under the dash and none are blown.
Checked if the connection was all the way in and yes it is.

any thoughts on what might could be problem? thanks

The clock should be fine itself though - however that could possibly be the only solution or ?

please help. thank you

i just finish my basic electrical class so im going to give this one a shot. whats probally happening as far as it reseting is your going to need a ecu that has a clock. its part of the computer that stays on all the time aka k.a.m. (keep alive memory), but this only works as far as after you whut the car off. as far as it dimming and going out and reseting with the lights, your going to have to tell me what wires you taped for power, if that model came with a clock option and so forth. im probally (most likely) wrong but im trying.

Thanks for the feedback. Any thoughts are appreciated.

As for the model/year civic. All civics come prewired for clocks. So All i did was removed the dash block off plate and reached for the wire/plug behind it and connect to the clock.

Works fine. until the light switch is turned on. It just blacks out. and comes on again once lights are off.

Default Re: Volt meter

Is your battery up enough to start the car? You need to put a volt meter on the clock terminals and read the voltage with the lights on and off. It sounds like when you turn the lights on the battery voltage is going so low that the clock dims and resets.

that sounds right, but once lights are turned on everything is fine. headlight works, interior, dash, etc... no signs of power loss

If you can put a volt meter on it you can isolate the problem to from the car or in the clock. Do you have a volt meter? They are pretty cheap these days.

how's ur dimmer switch?
sounds like u got a couple wirez crossed
the battery backup(constant) should be keeping the right time without resetting
sounds like when you turn ur lights on it's disconnecting the constant lead...
sum1 get a wiring diagram
