HELP! lighting problems? (RE: 92 hatch DX)
hey guys, im having problem with my EG lately.
here is the problem:
at night when i turn on my headlight the HEADLIGHT itself turns on, but the INTERIOR lights (cluster, climate control, etc) does NOT turn on. Also the Taillights and front corner lights does NOT turn on.
if i put the switch to PARKING LIGHTS, everything works though.
i checked all the fuses and its fine.
anyone know whats wrong?
thanks

yeah its the fuses.. you sure you checked them right.. ive and a friend had had that damn fuse blow on us to make all that happen.. replace it and see if it happens again... just dont turn on your turnsignal... it might blow it again... if not.. there no idea what it could be, it should be that damn fuse!

If the fuses are good and everything works but just not at the same time I would say it's the headlight switch. Do you have a schematic and a voltmeter?

thanks for the reply
i checked all and every single fuses under the dash and under the hood. everything is cool. like i said, EVERYTHING WORKS and turns on, just that when headlight is switched on, it doesnt turn on
i am running out of ideas.
used to be before that it happens SOMETIMES when the weather OUTSIDE is VERY COLD. then i would just keep playing with the switch and it will work..now it doesnt at all

I had the same problem in my car. It was not the fuses. It is the actual switch itself. You will need to pull the shroud around the steering column off and remove the switch package. I took mine apart and cleaned and re-lubricated it real well, but be careful there are a lot of little parts in there. If you arent that handy, just go get another one from the junkyard.

It aint the damn fuses bro! If it was the parking lights would never work...think about it. It is the switch, as it is the only *variable* in this calculation.
Good Luck

one jury-rig I did until I got mine taken apart and fixed was to turn the switch *between* the parking lights only and the headlights. So I didnt turn it all the way to headlights, just sorta in between, and it would work like that. Give it a try

you're gonna have to get a new switch, 60 bucks or so. remove your steering wheel (almost too easy if you don't have an airbag) unplug and remove the switch unit (little box that surrounds your steering column that has the two turn signals and crap on it) and put the new one on... that should fix all your problems.
if anybody says different, let me retort by saying your switch is broken, bro.
peace.
