How do people set off their check engine light when its time to shift or when it redlines? noob question but I just wanna know. I have my flamming suit on and ready

yea people have. i've heard about this being done using chrome. i suppose if you felt the need to do this you could utilize an rpm activated switch to give you an output to then activate the cel light. if the switch outputs a +12v great, just run that to the pin on your dash harness for the cel. if it outputs a negative then just use a basic 12v relay to convert it to a +12v. I cant imagine supplying power to the cel light outside of the ecu's own power would cause much harm but i'm not absolutely certain on that.

Seems like an idea but i've never seen it done.

I have seen people wire a light into their cluster from the VTEC solenoid so when VTEC starts, the light turns on.

i wouldnt do it with the CEL because you may miss an actual code being thrown.. use the cruise control or something like that..

Actually I have this exact feature set in my Uberdata-tuned P28 ECU. I love it.

What?

The check engine light pops on momentarily when the revs hit your predetermined rpm - mine is set at 8200rpm, so I can see it and actually shift at 8500rpm or so. This feature does not alter the normal function of the check engine light. Mine primes on like it should when turning the key into the "on" position, goes out when the main relay clicks on, and if I'd ever throw a damn check engine code (hasn't in 8-9 years now ) it would also read out codes like normal.

I prefer this discreet feature as opposed to a huge-*** Monster Tach screaming "hey look at me I'm Billy Streetracer!!!"

they do it through uber data or hondata program on chipped ecus its not hard.

No, all the ROM editer (Neptune, EcTune, Hondata, Crome, Uberdata) use the stock wiring. They change the code in the ECU to make the CEL come on at a certain RPM.

You would be 100% right. Rom editing has come a long ways since we last tuned. You can have a boost controller ran from a honda ECU

the crome portion works fine, you know it is not a cel because it goes off as soon as you shift, as for the rpm switch, just run some diodes on the wiring to the ecu, and in that way it will not affect the ecu by applying voltage to the ecu output. but crome or other ecu management is deff the way to go.

I didnt say that chrome required any more than stock wiring. i was simply stating that if you were not using one of those rom editors like you described, it could still be done.

i was looking into doin this, getting the CEL to flash as a shift light. i have hondata s200.
any idea how to do it?? i downloaded hondalogger and played around with it while i wasnt connected.

download the s100/s200 manual from hondata's website, it tells you how in there.
