Default cant get axle in tranny..aarrrgghh

so my friend and i spent the better part of this afternoon putting in a z6 tranny on my civic lx. everything is pretty much installed now except the damn driver side axle. we can not get it to pop into the tranny. is it possible a c-clip got stuck in the tranny? i just thought of that.... anyways it wont pop in. any hints on gettin better leverage to push it in or sumthing? im just so pissed off cos im so close to having my tranny swap done and a ******* axle is keeping me from being done...

The ring around the end of the axle might be bent and sticking out a bit you can remove that ring if you want.

c clip is fine, i actually bent it in so it would be smaller, still was being a pos. and uh... a hammer? yea where do u hit? you cant hit on the end... puts stress on the cv joints. ill try lubin it up.

and uh, u cant just remove the ring at the end, otherwise the axle will fall out.

Does it even slide in at all? If so, then you can tap it in with a 2x4 piece of wood and a hammer (or just use a hammer if you want to) and tap it into the tranny. If it doesn't go in at all and doesn't catch, might want to make sure that you have the correct axle. On some STD sohc Civics, the axle shaft was smaller and had less splines so make sure you are using the correct axle.

im still confused as to where i hit the axle with a hammer/rubber mallet/whatever. if you hit it on the end it wouldnt help at all, would it? the joints would just move then.

the driver side axle was the hardest to get into mine as well. you don't need a hammer, it'll go in... what i did was put the end of the axle just inside the tranny, grabbed the axle housing thing, get REALLY pissed and rammed that bastard in. it seems easy when you are pissed.

If it's really stubborn this is what I do, works like a charm. Get a 5 or 7 ton gear puller (you don't need that much force really, just something with a large enough diameter to go around your hub assembly). put the axle through the hub, then into the tranny. pop the ball joint back in place and put the crown bolt back on (you don't need to tighten it, just do this so that it doesn't move around to much). Take the rotor off and put the gear puller on the hub so that it pushes the axle toward the transmission. Keep turning the gear puller until the axle pops into the tranny. It won't have enough clearance to leave the hub, so it has no where to go but into the tranny, so just keep cranking it until it goes in.
