I bought a p28 and a obd1 conversion harness so i can use this ecu on my obd2 d16y7 engine. i plugged it in and the car turned on then died out, tried again and just didnt turn on anymore. do i have to do anything special to get it to work?

I have a virgin p28 ecu and a skunk 2 obd1 conversion harness

you should be able to run your car on the P28 if u have the correct obd2 to obd1 jumper harness.
