camshafts and cam gears question?
I got a 2000 honda civic si with around 180 hp. I was wondering how much power i would get out of aftermarket camshafts and cam gears. I was thinking about just running tru time AEM gears.......so would it be better to do camshafts too? Any advice would be great. Thanks a lot.

what mods do you have that make you think you have 180hp? any dyno sheets?
anyway back to the op, how much power you get from cams depends on the cams, other mods you have, and the tune. as for cam gears, get something with easily read timing marks and more than 3 bolts. i like the golden eagle gears.
sure you can trim the side of the valve cover and timing cover to expose the gears, but if you plan to daily drive it like that a small rock or anything could get in there, and then.....your screwed.

thanks. well i dont know for sure how much hp i have. I know stock they have 160. I have dc headers, AEM cold air, custom exhaust all the way back, throttle body and pullys. So tunning the gears is just by adjusting the bolts at the degree marker, right? Or do i need to take it to a shop?

Doesn't the AEM cam gears have three bolts? Like what that cool doood said get cam gears that have five or six bolts. I have heard stories about AEM gears slipping and when thta happens you're screwed.

160hp is a flywheel hp number, the car's really puttin down about 120-130 at the wheels, maybe 130 to 140 with your boltons.
BHP = WHP =/= HP
Your car has to be tuned once you install the camshafts, get them tuned on those adjustable gears and you may be good for an extra 5whp or so.
Now when you get ready to flip out on me and tell me ur car's really got 170 and the cams will give u 20 more I only have one thing to say:
Don't hate tha playa, hate the game.
EDIT:
PS: Yeah, you can just trim down the side if you want the cam gears visible, it's just a guard so some dumbshit doesn't get his finger taken off while working on a running car, shouldn't have any problems there. Though it also keeps any **** from getting in there, it's a "saftey" feature for your engine..but if you have **** going in there you probably have bigger problems to worry about.

Here was my old B16 setup. A good reference for you I guess or should I say don't get your hopes up lol. I made 174whp with everything tuned with a VAFC. And ran 14.7 with a 2.3 60ft in a 2420lbs with driver car.
