Are all cam gears created equal?
I've read threads about AEM's cam gears slipping, and then I've read replies where they say AEM is fine with only 3 bolts.
Do you think the number of bolts is that important?
Or is it a matter of installing any cam gear properly?
On another note, I've got an extra valve cover here that's cut to allow for easy cam gear tuning. The whole edge is cut off, not the circle thing that was in a post a while ago, should I worry about dirt/whatever getting in there at all? Is a cut valve cover a bad idea? Your thoughts, please.

Actually, not too long ago, someone was doing tests where they'd check the 0 deg setting vs. the stock cams on a shaft with a key to fit Honda cam gears. Most of them were off by a small amount.
Back in the day, like a few years ago, the AEM's teeth on their gears were not meshing well with the timing belt. A whine was apparrent when the valve cover was cut to access the gears. I went out of my way to find adjustable cam gears that used the stock outer gear and an adjustable center (cusco of old I believe). Now, I have skunk2s and no mesh problems, 0degs are actually 0 degs and no rubbing on the valve cover (The older AEMs rubbed on a friend's H22A a bit on the outer edge).
Not gospel, just a bit of experience. Also, 6 bolts are better than 3......

if installed properly, the AEM is a great gear... at least i know their newer ones are. the timing marks are also more clearly marked on the AEM's then on many other brands... on some of the other brands, the timing marks aren't as visible and can become worn off.
Not safe if you're doing the Baja 1000, hahaha... I made a speaker grill cover on my integ when I had it, I am now in the process of making one for my Prelude...

Can I hear some thoughts and comments about the safety, or whatever, of a cut valve cover?
TTT... please, if it's alright to cut I want to do it NOW so I won't have to take the valve cover off again later and have to repaint it, etc..
