Brake lights don't work - wiring and fuse issues
Okay so I have a Civic 94 dx Hatchback and the brake lights don't come on when i press the pedal. I turn on my headlights and the taillights come on but doesnt turn any brighter when i press the brake. Advanced auto parts told me that there was a switch problem. so i bought a new switch, put it on connected it and it still doesnt work. the owner before me had installed a nrg quick disconnect steering wheel on it, so he did some wire cutting and now my horn is the mist for the windshield wipers. The only wiring i see underneath the dash is two wires coming from the brake light switch that have been cut and the yellow one looks like it goes to one of the horn wires and the red wire goes to a fuse under the dash. 10a fuse i believe. i don't know if that has anything to do with it but my brake lights did work when it was wired up like this. Please help! oh and also the fuse under the hood for the brake light/horn is not there. it was also like that when i bought this car as well. When i put a fuse there my horn and wipers didnt want to work. but when i took off the fuse they worked.

Re: Brake light switch *help*
Pics of the wiring. I don't see how the steering wheel is remotely connected to the brake switch though. I mean, I just wired in my horn on my NRG wheel and only dealt with one wire.

i'll post pics of how they are wired but the red wire was actually hooked up to one of the main 15a fuses under the dash. and i checked right now to see if that fuse was blown and it didnt show that it was. so i straightened out the wire and put it into the fuse socket before the fuse, then put in the fuse and felt the wire in place. i then tested my brake lights and they do turn on now. but i will take a picture of how the wires look underneath the dash. brb

A previous owner has created an electrical nightmare. For example, the brake lights should be wired to the hood fuse box not the dash fuse box. The way it's wired now, the brake lights only work with the key in ON(II). It would be wise to return the wiring to stock and to fix the problems that prompted the bad rewiring.

Ah. The brake lights work, but everything's wrong with the way they work.
One can only guess what these people are thinking when they create these wiring scenarios.

if i knew how to wire them back i would :/ I'm most likely doing to take it somewhere to get the wires put back to stock. And most likely look up the best way to wire the horn to an nrg quick disconnect.

2) If you have a shop fix the wiring, it's likely to be very expensive.
