Icon2 Axle is loose on the trans end

hi guys i hope someone can answer this. so first off i have a 1997 civic hb 5 speed, i had a bad axle on it and i replaced it but the axle is still loose on the trans end... what is causing that, is this an easy fix or do i need a whole rebuild. the other day i was driving the car and just got her into 3rd and the lower ball joint gave out so it ripped the other axle right out and banged up the car pretty good thank god i was ok.
Thanks Matt

When you say loose do you mean that your tranny slips due to Loose axel? Or does the axel come out very easy? There is suppose to be a snap ring on the transmission side of the axel that helps lock it in place. Hope this helps.

the axle snaps into place fine but it still moves up and down when you yank on it. is there a bearing on the in side of the trans that could have went?

yes, diff bearing could be bad. How much play is there? Is it making noise when you drive?
