Re: Alt Wiring / Problem / Swaps - Confused A/F
So ******* weird
So I hooked the wire up AGAIN 12v.
unhooked, tested at alt terminal (this time i put a washer on to hold the multimeter probe and the bolt instead of holding it) and I got 18v!!!
ok so hook the 1ga back up with the washer and .. now I'm getting 14v!
so either I needed a fecking washer OR the terminal post on the alternator has bad connection?
guess we will see
14v yay

And by the time I made that post and went outside again..12v.
so it's out. Was able to wiggle it out the top without re moving the main bracket or brake master
the 2nd alt I wanted to use is missing a pull bolt although I can't get the oully off I don't trust it and i can't get the bolt off the first so I'm gonna try the third !

So.. put in a denso..which has a bigger pully and doesn't need and can't even use the extra "bracket" (I will take a pic) for mounting and uses shorter belt
but now it's charging stable I think I mean unless it dies again while I'm posting but ya my alternator was bad I guess .. good amps bad voltage. Prob just needs a new regulator.
I do like how the denso sits a bit closer to the block, farther from the frame rail and doesn't need the bracket. Will have to see what kind of amps this will put out, but it was solid 14v on my wideband (multi gauge shows voltage) so yah
I spent all day trying things when the swap tool like 45min.
had to remove the bracket off the block (actually just loosened the back bolt and removed the front and swivelled it out the way) because the denso was a bit bigger than the others.
if people want I will still write an article with the deets I've learned

Hooked all wires back up works fine.. although I didn't see a battery light on koeo and did before? Dunno i think if thr alternator is unplugged the light won't even come on which is a silly design

Well, it's charging. I hooked up all the wires..will have to double check my battery light, it did come on earlier with the first alt plugged in at koeo so..iuno, not too worried about it, I got gauges and stuff but still would like it to function.
since all 4 wires are hooked up, ALTC is a possibility. I need to check if the wire traces to the ecu. It may.
I'm pretty confident now that I thought about it that my engine harness is stock from the d, as the teg harness would have power steering stuff which I don't have.
if it does go to ecu, I may let the ecu control it normally w/an override or set my own control with a function..would be nice to kill it for fe, I like trying to get the best fe I can considering..hey 94 octane isn't cheap.

4 pin B-series alternators show up fairly often in Canada as the JDM engines used them which is where most of the B-series swaps in this country came from.

Hey, thanks for clarifying, I figured this might be possible although obviously neither engine is JDM. None of my engines are JDM. Still odd too how the two different types mount different.
