Default OBD2a engine/chassis, OBD1 ECU, which alternator?

As the title says, I'm running a b18b1 in a 96 EK hatchback, and I have the engine running, but I can't tell if either the alternator is dead, or I'm supposed to be using a different alternator. I'm using a P28 ECU with Hondata, so do I have to convert to an OBD1 alternator or what?

I'm sorry if this has been covered many times, I can't seem to find the exact infomation on this subject.

Thanks,
- Steven

what engine harness are you using? alternator has to match that.

It's an OBD2a engine harness. I heard the OBD2 alternators have a different voltage regulator in them though, so I don't know if that is why the battery isn't getting a charge or what.

update: went and had the alternator tested, it's making an average of 14.7 volts, so it's good. The harness is obd2a, engine is obd2a, ecu is obd1...I guess either I have a connectivity or grounding problem, or I have to change to an obd1 alternator.

it has nothing to do with the ecu. i have run an obd1 ecu with obd2 alternator for years.

Ok thank you for eliminating that out of the equation. I'll start trying to track down the connection or grounding problem this week.

make sure your charge harness is connected correctly in the fuse box. It is the part of the engine harness that is held down by a screw inside the fuse box... GL
