Default Adding A/C (Air Conditioning) to a 1999 Civic Hatchback CX that didn't come with it Factory

A couple questions-----
A. Is it cost effective for me to buy something off the forums and try to install it, or is it similar to a Auto to Manual conversion where it's better just to sell the car and buy one with it factory?

Also,
I know that most of the parts needed--
Blower motor (inside?) maybe--
Compressor
Pulley (belt if pulley is there)
lines
climate control/button
condensor
anddddd ?

How difficult is this to install? I'm looking to have it done and I can probably find a complete AC system on the marketplace if I look around enough. EST cost? Thanks guys!!

If you search this, I have already made a pretty in depth post about exactly this. However, I'll give you a quick rundown of what you need:

Condensor, condensor fan, and harness attached to it.
Filter/dryer
All hard and soft lines under hood
AC evaporator and the grommet that goes in the firewall for the AC lines and the one for the drain
Just the little plastic button for the climate controls (all climate controls have the electrical, they just don't have the plastic piece)
Fuses
Relays in underhood fuse panel for condensor fan and compressor
You do not need the blower motor as it's the same.

Everything already has the holes tapped for all of the mouting points. I put the AC in my car in about an hour. It's that easy to bolt it all in. Even if you take your time, you should be able to do it in 3-4 hours. Best bet is to find a salvage yard and get everything you need off of the car.

i have posted so many times of the ac system too..it is not very difficult to install ac system.as long as u get all the parts ready..u will figure it out cause it is only one way to install them..u wont connect the wrong pipes but u will need to get a brand new ac dryer/ receiver and get the whole ac vacumed and recharged by a ac shop for like $100... u cant skip this one and diy cause ac system is pressurized, it wont engaged if there is no pressure..pm me if u have any question

Do you guys know if the parts are interchangable between different model years? (EG, EK, EJ, etc.) I'm looking to pick up an EG/EH but doesn't have a/c, and I have to have it here.

-19mm combo wrench
-17mm combo wrench
-14mm combo wrench
-10,12,14mm sockets 3/8ths

Sorry to bring back a thread from the grave but I've given up on searching the forums and the google. I want to know how to install an A/C system into a 1999-2000 Civic EX and I've come up with only 2 or 3 useful threads but none of them showing steps on how to install it. Please help! >< Thank you!

EDIT: I used the following keywords: adding, installing, honda, civic, 1999, 2000, air, condition, conditioning, system

Actually, there are more than a few guides for doing this. I've got a 95 del Sol that I recently installed AC from parts I purchased from a salvage yard. It's really not that difficult; it only takes patience and lots of research. You will find that you may not necessarily get parts for you exact model/year as many of the parts are interchangable. For example, honda used the exact same evaporator for from 1995 to 2000 for just about every model they made.

Check this link to start and read the rest of the FAQs in this model specific thread.

Hey,

I bought a 97 cx hatch with AC installed, but without power steering. Currently, there is no belt. There is a tensioner, but without power steering, will I need an idler of some sort? Or, is there a belt that can be made to work without it?

Thanks!

it is not a serpentine belt setup. every pulley has its own belt.

Ok then,

It looked like the belt for the power steering and AC was common, with a tensioner close to the crank pulley. I'll pick up a belt and throw it on this afternoon if it stops raining.

Thanks!
