Default How do I install A/C in my Civic CX?

I bought a Civic hatch cx a few days ago and of course it doesnt have ac. I want to put a system in it but im not sure where to start. Is there a certain type of car I would have to get the system from or will any 92-95 civic's ac system work? I would prefer a 94-95 system because of the cheaper and more readily available freeon.

92 and some 93 Civics came with R12.
Some 93s, ALL 94-95 Civics came with R134a.

Did your car come with AC originally, but was later stripped from it... or did it come without AC from factory?

Are you sure about that? I have a 1995 CX myself and I had A/C from the factory. I know none of the CX models had power steering unless you opted for an automatic transmission which included power steering by default in Canada.

Yeah Im sure it came from factory like that. It still has the original motor and everything on it.

92-93 civics use R12. 94-95 civics use R134a. I would definitely recommend putting a 94-95(R134a) system in your cx since R134a freon is easily accessible from your local parts store. The AC line fittings between 92-93(R12) and 94-95(R134a) are different, so make sure you piece together your AC system(compressor, condenser, lines, receiver/drier, and evaporator) from 94-95 civics. All 94-95 civic(coupe, sedan, & hatchback) AC parts interchangable.

Civics made in '93 can have R12 or R134a. More commonly R12, but there are a few 93s out there that came with R134a.
OP: To be sure, you could look at the charging ports... or even easier, the under-hood sticker.

The CX was the absolute base, power nothing model, with the exception of the CX Plus in the Frozen North.

The only '92 - '95 Civics that had factory A/C were the '94 - '95 EX sedans. Other than that A/C was installed at the dealership after the car arrived. It came in the form of a kit from Honda.

Pretty sure there isn't a rule against new users using the SEARCH function, or looking at the FAQs (Note in particular, Section 16, part 'c' focusing specifically on Air Conditioning). These locations should be obvious to the average user. The answers you seek are there. If, after you read them, you still have more questions, then fire away.

I have a DX coupe and it also didn't have factory AC.

I don't know if this is still available, but I purchased an entire AC "kit" from the dealer many years ago (maybe around 2004 or so). IIRC, it was around $800 and had all the parts necessary for the install, with the exception of the R134 (I had a shop fill it up).

Some "smart ***" is probably gonna come out of the woodwork and say I got ripped-off, as I could have got the entire AC system out of a junkyard/dumpster/**** car for free. Whatever. I've had cool air for the past 8+ years in Florida and I'm happy. Totally worth it if you can find the original retrofit. I think it took me maybe half a day of work to get the AC in.

Do you now have further questions after reading the FAQs?
