car wants to die when i give it gas
I have a 96 civic and it wants to die when I give it gas. I replaced everything on my y7 that I could possibly think of on it and it still did the same thing. so I pulled my b18b1 that I had in my other civic and (that motor ran fine no problems) put it in my 96 civic and it still does the same thing when I give it gas. I replaced every thing fuel all my sensors are new as well as the dizzy cap rotor plugs and wires. I have good spark and am getting fuel no problem so I am thinking it has to be something on the body of the car. any ideas?

Did you replace the fuel pump and pickup filter, fuel line, return line, and the tank? Does it run the same way if you make it throw a CEL by unplugging a sensor?

I am using an obd1 ls ecu but I am running a jumber harness. the dizzy works fine when its in my buddys car. I replaced the fuel pump fuel filter I have not replaced any lines cuz they don't look bad. I am going to see if I have any codes cuz my check engine light is not on but that doesn't mean that there isn't a code my bulb could have burnt out. I am going to test my main relay as well as get a new fuel line that goes from the fuel filter to the fuel rail.

Re: car wants to die when i give it gas
I'm curious if it runs better in open loop mode because sometimes a sensor can be slightly out of range, enough to make the motor run poorly yet not enough to throw a CEL. You could try forcing it into open loop by unplugging the TPS for a split second and plugging it right back in, just long enough to throw a CEL on purpose while it's running.
I don't know all the details of honda ecu's. I do all my tuning with a standalone ems. I've had temperature sensors and fast idle valves go bad but still good enough to give readings, which skewed some of my maps and made it seem like my timing was out of sync.

well I replaced the main relay and it still does the same thing and I tried unplugging my maf and tps and still runs the same.. some told me to check the fuel cut off relay and to check the fuel injector relay but I honestly don't know if Hondas even have one?

All of these overly complicated answers...
OP, check your ignition timing, and re-calibrate your TPS. DIY's for both are in the FAQ's sticky, IIRC.

im telling you it has nothing to do with the motor cuz that motor ran perfectly fine when it was in my other civic no problems. so it has to be on the body of the car

Fuel pressure regulator is leaking? take the vacuum line off of it and watch it for 5-10 minutes at idle and see if it spits out any gas.

Re: car wants to die when i give it gas
If its wanting to die when you give it gas, everything above is on track. More than half of the time its because of a failure for a timing advance to take place. So improper readings from the TPS or MAP sensor could be taking place. If you give it little throttle and let it gradually build, does it do better that way. One thing I always do when a car is doing that, I just open the throttle a lot and see if there is just no response from the motor. One of these times, the MAP and TPS plugs were reversed, another time (B series) the timing was just set horribly, reset and good to go.
Honda doesn't use a "fuel cutoff relay" to my knowledge. I know Chrysler (Dodge, N/A Mitshubishis etc) use an ASD (Auto Shutdown) relay.

Re: car wants to die when i give it gas
OP is so dead-set in the idea that it's not a problem with the motor that she isn't willing to take 5 minutes and do a test. This thread is a losing battle.

Re: car wants to die when i give it gas
I've known a few people like that. It usually ends up being something dumb like something has a loose connection or is plugged in wrong. I've actually seen the TPS and MAP reversed in MULTIPLE motor swaps. Unless the wiring is just completely screwed and one of the wires got severed. I don't see why people don't like to test, it makes me feel like the Dr. House of Hondas when I figure it out lol.

I have a 95 with a d16z6. Same problem. With timing dead on give it to much gas it dies. Give it gas real slow and it revs . I advance my timing just to see what would happen. And it revs just fine. Havent figured out the problem yet but when i do ill let you know

Well there you go. Sometimes its that simple lol. What kind of plugs were in there. If you say AutoLite then... there's the issue. I don't sell any Honda/DSM people anything BUT NGK BKR/BPR plugs.
