99 civic ex motor into 96 civic ex - OBD2a to OBD2b conversion?
Is there a way to put a 1999 honda civic ex motor in a 1996 ex? They are the same motors but the 96 has odb-2a and the 99 has odb-2b. I have everything swapped over all I have to do is figure out the ECU. Please help me.

Everything is basically the same besides the wiring harness and the ECU. Put your old wire harness on the engine and run the old ECU and you'll be fine.

OK...thanks sho-nuff. Do you know if I can swap the harness while its in the car? I am a little worried about the fuel injectors and where it goes under the throttle body. Is it feasible? Would of been alot easier while it was danglin from the hoist. I see the distributor harnesses are different to, hopefully I can get around that.

Everything but the distributor is plug and play. Just keep the harness in your car. Use your stock ECU and engine harness.

Really I can just swap the distributors? So i can change the harness with the motor in? There is a black plastic box by the throttle body. I can't figure out what it is or how to open in. and the fuel injectors look impossible to get to

Yes.
Its a pain in the *** but yes you can, it has to be changed though, no way around it (other than to swap the cabin harness, but thats even more work) The only difference in the engine itself is the '99 - '00 versions have air injection, just make sure there are no vaccum leaks and don't worry about it.

You wanna part with that 99-00 harness, and ecu? I need both as I just did the opposite of what you did and put a 97 Y8 into a 99 Shell I have...

Sounds like a plan. I was going to put it up on ebay when I'm done. I'm going to need a day or two tho. Actually right in the middle of the project right now. I got the old harness out and the new one in but I snapped a stupid f***in sensor on both motors. sorry, I own 10 jeeps with point sets and carbs, this sensor crap seems like a good way to not have a car last 40 years like american made old iron. Everythings going smoothly if I can find out which god damn sensor this is considering theres about 20 of em. I'm pretty sure I am going to cut the dizzy harness off but I'll solder the old one back on and we'll work something out for the harness and ecu. hang tight tho, I'm not done yet.

if you can't fix it then hit up the junkyard, craigslist, or eBay. won't be anywhere near $140.

Sounds good, just let me know. And as far as that knock sensor goes - you can find them cheap online all the time.

I soldered longer wires onto the tiny leads on the broken plastic piece. then soldered them down to where they used to be. not sure if its going to work because there were no definitive spots to terminate these two wires. It was just a metal disc with two wires soldered 180 degrees from each other. Anyways then I epoxied the whole thing together. its dryin now, I'll let you know how it works. I assume if the check engine light is off I'm good to go. Sure hope it works, that thing was a pain to get to. Dam I wish I did all this when the motor was hanging from the hoist. These little sensors are worth 100 bucks? **** I can part out my old civic and make a ton.
