So I have the ever so common crack on the exhaust manifold on my Civic LX and was wondering if anyone ordered something like this. Notice it's a two piece modified from what the stocker is (exhaust mani and cat one piece).

I know it says not legal for sale in Cali but lets just say if I can get ahold of it, will it work without throwing any CEL?

Anyone ordered this in Cali and had zero problems with them?

I'm not from CA but you won't pass smog with it unless it has the CARB numbers

It should work just fine. I'd be more concerned about whether the smog tech will catch it. When they did away with old style cats my friend (who is a smog tech) said the new cats are serialized now.

So you're saying that when they do smog checks.. they look for a serial number on the cat to verify if it's legal?

Do all legal cats sold in Cali have serial numbers? I did not know that.

Won't pass smog meaning visual inspection of how the cat is made cheaply that it won't pass smog?

Smog techs.are "sapposed" to verify serial number on cat to make sure it.matches the car

I ran a newer.cat in my ef.for.a few years.n.didn't have any problemsproblems

Theyll be to lazy to actually look at it. I'm missing they cat converter that goes under my car and they didn't check.

So I was thinking, even if I can get a hold of it and it's a direct fit, it might not even pass smog if the cat is not made up to Cali standards huh?

It might be a free flowing cat so it won't pass regardless if the tech checks it or not.

I'm just trying to go the cheaper route since it's an old car and don't want to spend $300+ on an OE one with the same shitty design that's prone to cracking again in the future.

A two piece design would be nice.

Will an EX mani, cat, and downpipe have a direct fit on the LX or will I need to have some modifications? Will the cost be less than $300 to piece together?

Lol true smogs can be had for 150-200 maybe cheaper than fixing the issue

Yeah but I'm getting CEL and poor gas mileage and it sputters sometimes due to leaking air from the mainifold.

I have to get it replaced.. just looking for an alternative that works instead of shelling out $300+.

You need a cali compliant cat.

Chances are a new one will get you by emissions, just it will need a carb sticker or some id on it.

I would go to a private shop let them do the emissions and hopefully pass, most likely they will not look for carb stickers, just go when they are busy.
