'97 Civic EX need help troubleshooting
Howdy there. I'm new here.
I've got a bone-stock 1997 Civic EX (D16Y8) with a 5-speed.
A few months back, I got a VTEC fault and a clacking noise that seemed to come from the top end. I sent the head out, but no serious damage was found. They suggested I rebuild it anyways, since the cam was showing some wear, but I was more interested in getting my problem fixed. After replacing the valve seals/cam seal, I reinstalled the head with a new timing belt. I also dropped the oil pan and checked the rod end bearings (all were good). The car ran fine at first, with the exception of a fluctuating idle speed (between 900-1500 rpm) and continuing clacking noise. After two days of moderate city driving, the CEL came on. It also began to be a hard start (sounds like low compression), had little power, and would die at idle. I pulled the codes and came up with:
P0301, P0303, P1300, and P1399.
I have yet to check ing. timing.
My main concern is, have I mistimed the cam?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
