are there any visible leaks. if you let the car run at idle it will naturally build pressure and a leak will occur if there is one.therefore, creating your pressure checker you dont have. otherwise, a clog or bad fan will cause this. headgasket is not usually the case but could also be, if no visible leak is found. double check everything even on the back side of the engine where the heater hoses are.

Checked the lower rad hose today (the one that wasn't heating up) and no clogs....when i detached it from the bottom of the radiator quite a bit of coolant came out. The other end of the hose that attaches to the thermo had nothing but dried and crusted coolant I'm guessing.

I'm guessing water pump here guys. Anyone have a good way of testing this?

BTW, when this prob first happend - my overflow tank almost filled to the brim.

Wondering if you figured it out? What does your oil look like? Hopefully you arent getting any water in there. Do you have a lot of white smoke coming out your exhaust? Does your exhaust smell like coolant? Is your coolant super frothy? A long time ago I had an accord with a cracked head and those were the signs. I hope you get it figured out! Please post if you do, cuz My 94 civic EX 5 speed temp gauge SAYS its over heating, but the D16z6 shows no signs of being hot.

Not tryin to hijack anyones thread but, could that sensor off the thermostate housing cause a temp gauge to read hot if the car is not actually hot.
(My aftermarket temp gauge is pegged all the way to hot 1 minute after starting my car, it shows no other signs of being hot, I can open the radiator cap by hand, its warm but not hot)

I'm only posting on here because this is one of the first things that came up on google.

Having a similar issue; the temp gauge does not read hot but the car is obviously over heating.

Quick question on my Civic theres no timing belt cover, and when my water pump blew coolant started pouring on the ground and after a brief search i found it was spewing from the water pump. If the timing belt cover is intact, is there an outlet that allows the coolant to drain out when the water pump blows so it's not saturating the timing belt, also to indicate the water pump has gone bad?
