Default 96 Civic EX exhaust install.

So, quick backstory. I bought the car with a B18C1 swap (guilty) and the guy who had it before me installed an Apex'i N1 which is terrible at highway speeds and I have been pulled over. To avoid this I bought the seemingly quieter Ws2 (crossed fingers). I have done several things to my car but those of you who know me, know I like to quadruple check every angle before actually beginning. Get it right the first time sort of thing.

So, I went to tinker with my exhaust today when I got my shipment in, as I was stoked when I go it; however, I found it a little difficult (did not succeed) to get the tail end or axle back to come off. I got the bolts and hangars off and I could move it. A friend suggested that I take off all three sections and that should help. I am pretty sure, from what I could see, the axle section was getting stuck on the hangar of the middle section but was getting pissed about the amount of dirt in my eye and the 32 degree weather so I bolted it back up and took it down from the stands. Whew.

So my question is, can any one give me some personal experience or tips as to how they did it. I'm 80% sure from what I have googled that the axle section should just pull through the LCA but I can take it off if it calls for it. Any positive or negative feed back on either my situation or the exhaust system (personal experience) is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If it's stuck on the hangar, just cut the hangar. That is, if you don't mind buying another one. You can get em from a junkyard for free.
If you're trying to remove the hangar, a large pry bar helps a lot. Just be sure not to smack yourself in the face.

The hangars aren't stuck, I'm having issues on which way to pull the old exhaust. It gets stuck towards the right LCA and the other bushing/hanger is barely in the way.

Just unbolt all three pieces and spray the hangers with some wd-40 to loosen them up. It is much easier to work with the exhaust if it is broken up in smaller chunks especially if your doing it yourself

start from the front off the cat and work your way back it makes it easier to get the hangers near the bumper off cause you can move the exhaust both ways then just keep working it iv'e done it dont give up it will come off

To remove the axle-back section, I just tilted the muffler down and pulled it towards the rear bumper, over the control arm.

Lol, I don't know if that helped at all, but good luck.

It looks like what I was thinking and told is correct. Every little bit helps. Ha ha, I just need a nice above 50 degree day. cheers.

I just found out why the exhaust that is on there is suck a piece (N1), the thing is way passed it's prime and a hole blew out the back. Thank god I wasn't the idiot who put that in there.

Got any pics of it? I'm actually looking to buy something like an N1 (I'm a ricer at heart, lol). If the damage isn't too great, I may be able to fix it.

Why don't you just replace the axle back? The rest of the system should be fine.

And don't worry about the WS2, it is definitely a quiet system. I've gone past cops many times and never had an issue.

if you loosened all the bolts and the muffler wont budge, then get a hammer and tap it lightly at the joint... the gasket is probably all seized up and glued on from the heat day in and day out..

I was going to replace the axleback but just wanted a guaranteed fit instead of going universal. Thanks for the reassurance.

When I did it it was pulled a good 4 inches away from the middle section, I just couldn't get it through over the LCA.

Just be warned that most cops are old fashioned and like V8's our underestimated 4 bangers aren't welcome. Its funny though because I have paper work that states my car has passed emissions even when my county doesn't require emissions testing. I'd rather pay more now that run a crap front end on a new back end.
