96 Civic - d16y7 to d16y5 swap issues
Ok. I done a d16y7 to d16y5 swap. My car is a 1996 honda civic dx with a swap out of a 99 honda civic hx. My ecu recently went out. Mine has an auto harness and just found out that a manual ecu will NOT plug in. My question is this. Will an 99-00 ex engine harness hook up to my motor which is the d16y5?. Got to have my car fixed asap so I can find a job. Hate being stuck at home. My hx ecu numbers are 37820-p2m-l71 and the manual ecu is 37820-p2n-l32.Was under the assumption that 99-00 hx ecu would plug up no matter if auto or manual.?

Re: need experts help asap.
Is the Y5 out of an automatic or manual car? I believe automatic from what you say.
Easiest thing to do is mod your Y7 harness to fit (intake manifold area sensors and distributor wiring) Use your Y7 manual ECU. VTEC wont work.
If you want VTEC to work:
-5 wire wideband O2 sensor for manual Y5....which costs more than the whole engine.
-Manual Y5/Y8 intake manifold and IAC
-Manual OBD2A 96-98 Y5 harness.
-Manual Y5 ECU (they are all OBD2A, IIRC).

Yeah to get this running right you're going to have to spend a lot of time wiring and buying parts. In addition to those items listed above you're going to have to wire in the EGR as well as the two wire IACV. And no you can't use a 99-00 EX harness at all.
