Default 2000 civic overheating

hi. i have a 2000 civic that overheats at high speeds around 60mph. and it will cool down fast when i turn on the heat. but who wants to drive on interstate with the heat on. it will also cool down when i slow down to around 35 to 40 mph. also i forgot it only overheats when the temp outside is 90 or higher. ps i changed the thermastste already. pleas help

Need more info to be certain, but it sounds like you have a bad radiator.

when you changed the thermo did you bleed the system?
check the rad for clogs/ proper function.......


Theres a thread on here that deal with this exact same issue....overheating system..

Bleeding the cooling system may take 20-30 minutes:

1) Park the car on an inclined driveway with the front end higher than the rear.

2) Push/turn the dash heater lever/**** to MAX heat. Fan need not be on.

3) Follow the directions in the diagram below

Water pumps are rarely ever the problem on Honda engines, and this is why:

As long as the timing belt drives the impeller, the water is moving. Water pump generally fails when the seal goes bad on the impeller shaft, and the pump starts leaking coolant through the "weep hole".

I have seen an extreme case where the impeller was rusted away and it did not move any water...but that's one water pump in probably 5000 that I have seen. (I worked ten years as a parts guy at Napa, AZ and a local shop while in school)
Of course, since the coolant was just rusty water, it was weeping out of the hole.

will i tryed bleeding it. and it still overheats. but i looked at my radiator while i was down there and it was full of bugs and hloes i tryed hoesing out the bugs but i was putting more holes in the radiator. so ill get a new one this weakend and see what happens. thanks

sounds good let us know wat happens n dat should be your problem. when too much debris gets stuck on your radiator it blocks air.

replaced the rad and been driving it around for a week now and no more overheating. the old rad looked really bad. thanks ereryone
