2000 civic build up
Hey,
Ok well new here so please dont jump down my throat for anything you find dumb or pointless or anything, i have a 4dr Black 2000 civic LX, fully lowered, rims, tint...the list goes on, its a very clean car and i dont care that it is a 4door i love it!
now im running a D16Y7 engine with a 5 speed trans, ive been looking at swapping for a different engine for awhile but the funds to do so are not 100% there, so ive decided to build up an SOHC D-series engine, im not looking for huge numbers just something that ill enjoy to drive, now this is what i have so far
a full D15 block with low comp heads and pistons, Block guard, fully balanced..( a buddy had it for sale ), with a turbo header and turbo
a 2000 SI head thats being rebuilt as we speak, and a 2000 SI tranny
-now id like to know if bolting the head onto the D15 will i have to run the ls/vtec conversion or is there a port for oil feed for the V-tec? and if so awsome if not then ill guess ill tap it..
-second question, the good ole Knock sensor, is there a place to put it in the d15 block if so where do you suggest? i know theres a port under the intake manifold but i dont think its tapped, would you suggest doing so??
-third question, Crank sensor, do i have to change out the oil pumps to the new d16 pump or will the d15 one be ok after i add in the sensor??
i will not be doing the work, as i probably could but id rather have another shop do it and id like a few questions answered before i send it away,
is there anything you suggest? im open to anything but PLEASE dont bash me around!
thanks for your time

Re: 2000 civic build up (19ekcoupe96)
its something ive never seen done before, i dont wanna be like everyone else and have a turbo d16 blah blah, plus this block is fully balanced, new pistons and rods, block guard etc,
BUT if the internals on the d15 will work on the D16 block then maybe id consider doing that..?

This is what I say.
Sell the 2000 si motor parts you have. Get some cash and rock the D series. Put some bolt on headers exhaust and air intake. If you arent looking to push numbers and like you said want something fun to drive.....Hit up the suspension. Nothing can make a car funner to drive than a good suspension set up. By switching the heads like you are talking about, it isnt going to make that big of a difference, and the money the shop will charge isnt really worth it.
I would buy some front and rear tie rods/braces to aviod body roll. Get some good coilovers and shocks. And go carve up the roads. THAT will be the best thing you can do if you arent going to swap for a B18 or something of the like. With the minimal motor work you are talking, you are going to shave off a second or so in the quarter.

Re: (Injen)
Already have a full cold air intake, upgraded springs with 2.5"rear drop and 1.8" front drop, waiting for the strut bar to get here, already have full magnaflow exaust and i love that too, put in an SI guage cluster for the tach and it looks nicer, its fun to drive now but im looking for that added touch, i already have all the parts to build this engine up plus i jsut picked up a knock sensor for it, it will be a blast i think even more after, specailly when its finished dyno tuned and the turbo for the extra little punch, thanks for your input though!! still need a few questions answered?
