It is a 1994 Del Sol D15B7 manual transmission all stock (to my knowledge). 194K for mileage.

Bought as a salvage title, so not much vehicle history to go on. SRS light stays on but I don't think it is related to this problem because when the vehicle runs it runs well. No misses and the engine still has good compression.

The issue is that it will stall/quit as if the fuel gets shut off and will then go into a no start. I have been holding the main relay when the engine cuts and I feel and hear a click. CEL stays on and fuel pump will not prime. When I jump to pull the code the CEL stays solid. It will run fine for days on end, but the problem has become for prevalent as the days have gotten hotter.

I have check and cleaned the engine ground. I have bench tested (repeatedly) the main relay and probed all possible fuses. I have checked the solder on the main relay and it is all good. The pump will prime when I jump main relay 1-7, but nothing happens with 1-3, or 3-7. When the car first started doing this we paid a mechanic to install an new IAC.

In reading previous posts I have also gone so far as to jump A7 at the ECU terminal to body ground, which also triggers the pump to prime. Which lead me to test the continuity on the A26 and B2 grounds at the ECU terminal. They have continuity.

In the process of working on the car we have installed a new battery, K-tested and replaced the ECU, bench tested the MAP sensor, cleaned and tightened the FIT valve, replaced the coil and ignition module in the dizzy. Also have new plugs, cap and rotor.

We have also replace the drive shaft bearings in the transmission.

I feel like I am getting close to an answer, but am coming up with blanks.

Can anyone please, please help?

Update: Retested hoping for different results and now the fuel pump IS priming, but still a solid CEL. Jumped to get code and it remains solid. Pull jumper, turn key off and CEL goes out. Sometimes for a very short time (seconds) and sometimes long enough to start the car. When the car starts it runs for a very short period and shuts off with CEL light on.

Beginning to think I now have two different issues.

Wow, that is a mind twister. It sounds like a grounding issue for sure. I'm not sure of all the proper tech specs but I would think to install an extra grounding wire to the main relay and only flip it on when needed. Btw, I have family that live in your city

Since my kid (16 year-old) will be driving it I would prefer that the vehicle remains as stock as possible. It has become a project of sorts for us.

After running a full battery of tests, it is down to the ecu or the main relay. As stated before relay passes bench test. Could the relay be the culprit? I think I know the answer to the question, but thought I would ask.

Why don't you take it out and re-solder it and get the answer to your question?
