Default 1994 Del Sol DOHC?

Just wondering if anyone has, or knows someone who has a 1994 Del Sol with the stock b16 in it. My understanding is it's the first production year with a b16 in the Del Sol, and there were only about 1,500 made. Can anyone back this up?

I believe it is 94-95... some Del Sols did come with a B16a3

Yes, there's a Del Sol S which has a D15B7 in it, a Del Sol Si which has as D16Z6 in it, and a Del Sol DOHC VTEC which has a B16A3 (I think it's an A3, but it's definitely a B16) in it.

Yeah, it's true, but it's not like it's worth 8 grand or anything...it's worth just as much as any other del sol with a B16 swap in it.

Yeah, it is A3. I want to know if anyone else has one, or knows someone who has one of the originals. I don't know anyone who does, and it would be nice knowing I'm not the only one.

You arent the only one... a good amount of people own DOHC B16a3 Del Sols and have most likely moved on to a different motor.

yes there are some still around my friend Sam had one she's had it for like 6 years and she was selling it for $3000 W/145K, until some a$$hole pulled out in front of her with a fork lift and totaled the car, insurance gave her $3500 go figure.

They're quite rare, but not 1,500 rare. The stats I've always heard is that there were just over 6000 of them built.

You have a rare bird with very low mileage for its age.

I have the seats from a blue VTEC sol in my Si.

[edit] I just realized that you meant the 1500 figure was the total built in 1994. You're probably right. I was referring to 6000+ for the entire Sol VTEC production run.

I have the red seats and red Del Sol floormats. Along with a red ITR valve cover and other various red parts (fuel rail, CAI, header, etc.) Looks nice and sporty. My Del Sol has only been through 1 winter and maybe 2 snowfalls. If you have a keen eye, you can notice a slight difference in the body paint and the targa top paint, (body is minimally faded compared to targa top) due to the fact that 95% of the time it's driven, the top is in the trunk and the sun is beating down. Lol.

I've got a '94 VTEC, with the stock B16A3. They may be rare, but I saw several other VTEC sols while I was looking for mine, in various years and conditions. What are your questions about it? It drives fine, nice that it's stock so I don't have to worry about crap from emissions or police.

I'd agree that if you mean to swap the engine, get an S or an Si. The VTECs are rare enough already. IIRC, the only differences between an Si and a VTEC are:

Stiffer & lower suspension, but its probably worn out at this point anyway
8.2k tach
larger anti-sway bars

Those are all things you'd consider changing out on a swap anyway.

Edit: forgot, the VTEC has bigger brake rotors as well.

yeah i have a 94 VTEC model. All its really good for is resale value, knowing just a couple damaged panels wont total your car and just knowing you have a more rare EG2

I'm not interested in swapping anything. Lol, I just wanted to know there are people out there with the '94 DOHC VTEC other than me. It's bare around here (WI). I have no problems with the car, other than the constant squeak(sounds like a bad strut) which is due to a bad seal in the car. Not quite sure where it's comeing from.
