Function and Form coilover thread
IMO anyone that goes to the lowest setting isn't doing a good thing for themselves. Here at this height I have another 3 inches to go and its like I gotta raise mine, I hit my upper control arms on some stupid dips or bumps. Gets annoying fast. This height would be fine if I had the Type 2s, the extra stiffness would help lower the suspension travel but in turn give you a slightly rougher ride but it would handle better also. This first pic I'm posting was when I had mine for 2 months or so. I never bottomed out or had issues. The second was when I lowered it more.

P.S. Don't mind the aweful rotors here. I have new rotors/pads/calipers now lol.

Real mature there. I know a lot of guys that ride really low on EP3s or DC5s. Its a lot different. The McPherson suspension doesn't hit the upper control arms on the shocktower-they don't have upper control arms. Thats good because your ride quality doesn't change when you lower it if you have fixed stroke room coilovers like the F&Fs. They only have to worry about scraping lip or hitting a raised manhole, or not clearing a rise/dip.
With Civics and Integras you have to run stiffer suspension if you want to go really low otherwise you will hit the upper control arms on the shock body and thats real ghetto when you rather have it ride like **** so that your car looks good to other people. If I raise my car an inch or two its not going to make it an eyesore..... If you ride with SUPER STIFF then its just as bad. If you daily your car on bad roads 12k is about as stiff as you can go, anything higher than that is doable but I just hope the roads in your area are good for the most part. I know someone running 18k 16k and they say its fine, but then again those are $2,500 coilovers....We all do sacrifices but how far are you willing to go? Im fine at 10k 6k, thats stiff enough for the street for my uses. 12k I would do but Im good at where im at.
My point here is mainly that with Type 1s you can only go so low before you start bottoming out your suspension. The springs never fully compress, when I was at the height of the first picture I bottomed out the springs ONCE on this nasty *** dip but the upper control arms DID NOT hit. Thats a fully functional height. Looks great and handles great and has no issues other than not being able to go up ridiculous driveways which isn't something a person comes across every month.
Food for the thought. This is a discussion thread and thats what Im doing. Dont like it? Then argue back maturely or gtfo

to eacht their own
now if you want to get into that "hitting the UCA blah blah blah" bs i barely hit mine.
Like I said. Good for you if the roads in your area are good. I like riding semi slammed, look at the pics. That's pretty low mang. I'm just saying, MA roads are always in construction and my driveway is a bit high. I lost my mudguard getting out of it. If I could be an inch higher, I would be have no tire/fender gap and be fully problem free.
Forgive my noobiness/ignorance... but I'm looking to upgrade my suspension in the near future and FF Type 1 coilovers intrigue me.
I was wondering when you buy the coilovers, do you buy anything else with them? I currently have dropzone suspension on my EH2 (don't judge me, previous owner's idea
) and I really, really want to upgrade. Although, I'm not sure if I can just buy the coilovers and install them.
And the reason that I'm looking into coilovers instead of a spring/shock combo is I like the customizeable aspect, even if I don't change it all the time - just the fact that the option's there if I ever need/want it is cool to me
Thanks!

here's my EJ8 on Function and Form type ones...i raised mine quite a bit and am thinking of raising a little more, dang Pennsylvania roads are not made for lowered cars
love the ride quality though

You don't really need anything. It would be a good time to get some LCAs so that you'll have some new bushings but that's not needed. On my EH3 I figure since my car is quite a few years old my LCA bolts would probably snap. I bought 6 new bolts for about $40. I wouldn't want old bolts to snap when I take it off. They come with new nuts too btw.
And I wonder if weksos is still having that sale with the Type I's + Blox LCAs...
Weksos does not have the blox LCAs with Type I/II orders anymore. However they are now giving free HID kits with every order.
You don't want the Blox LCAs anyways. The bushings on mine are already taking a **** not even 4 months in. It just makes creaks when you go up a driveway

I'm putting some ES bushings on them though early next year.
LCAs aren't just a bling thing either. They do look good under there but they also allow you to mount a sway bar. Aftermarket LCAs help decrease the amount of camber that is added when you lower it. At my ride height I don't have that much camber, its actually helpful to have a bit. My buddy has OEM LCAs and it looks pretty close to mine camber wise so it doesn't matter too much on that aspect.
