I have a 2008 EX-L V6 model. I purchased it in December 2011. In cold weather, when I would start my car, it would sometimes make a weird sound for just a second. It never did that in warm weather until yesterday. I had not started my car for a few days. Maybe that could be why. It's hard to describe the sound. It's not a screeching sound like you would hear if you turned the key for too long. It's like a humming or whining sound. Have any of you experienced this with your Accord?

hmm its a possibility the sound may be from your starter or even your accessory belt tensioner.

it's almost four/five years since production, how's the battery? if the person before you leased it, they may have over-used the battery, too.

I was reading some threads on www.driveaccord.net. Other people were having the same problem. They say it's the VCT actuator.

It may be the VTC actuator, but it can also be cause by not using a Honda oil filter. Yeah I know that sounds absurd, but I used to work at a Honda dealership as a service advisor and we had one come in with a cheap aftermarket oil filter that was making a strange noise at startup when cold. Our master technician ended up calling the tech line and the guy at tech line had a previous issue where this was caused by a non-Honda oil filter. The Honda oil filter has a sort of check valve in it that keeps all the oil from flowing back down into the oil pan to eliminate dry start. Aftermarket filters do not have that.

What model do you have? The 4 cylinder or V6? I think it happens with both engines. The people on www.driveaccord.net say the same thing has happened with the 4 cylinder engines. You may not notice it until the cold weather or if you don't start the car for a few days.

Here's a video from another person who has the same problem as me. My car makes the same exact sound. I'm guessing it's the starter.
