Default Cooling Issues

Does anybody know why the tempurature would rise from normal operation to the 3/4 marker at a stop?

Just got the water pump changed, 20K on the radiator, headgasket is ruled out by
HC and pressure test. New Thermostat and ECT sensor. Both fans work.

Fan kicks on once car moves.

Ex, Coupe, 2.2L, vtec, and 170K+

Cheapo aftermarket cast impeller water pumps won't move the coolant as well as OEM pumps.

I do not think so. I bought the t-stat while I purchased my current radiator. Somehow I was conned into the purchase.

How much will that oem t-stat make a difference?

That seems backwards. Normally the fan should come on after you're stopped for a while. The fan will turn off once you start driving.

The fan is only needed when the car's not moving. Once you're driving even 15 or 20 MPH, that pushes more air thru the radiator than the fan.

If the fans run when you jumper the fan switch, then maybe the fan switch is triggering at too high a temperature. You could try a new fan switch.

ps... The temperature SHOULD rise somewhat when you're stopped. Just maybe not as high as 3/4 scale.

hey the main rad fan should kick on if it also stands still & the ECT has sensed that the temps are getting high...

hitting the AC button or defrost mode should make both fans worked---> as confirmed by your original post...

if you're sure there's no trapped air bubbles & you noticed that the water pump's impellers are moving the coolant thru the system...

then, check the coolant temp gauge sensor to see if it's working correctly? <shrugs>
