Check engine light comes on, problem goes away???
1991 Honda Accord EX Wagon, AT, 140K.
I was having a problem with my car over the past month. Whenever I press down on the gas (lightly) it would kinda' hesitate and bog down. Almost like it was flooding or something. Just no power at all. If I pressed down on the gas a little more, it would stop hesitating but then it just wouldn't seem to accelerate as well.
Until this evening. I was driving home from work and it was doing the same old thing. I was accelerating after a stoplight (in traffic) and it was bogging down. All of the sudden, the check engine light comes on (it had not done that before, ever), the car lurches forward, and then it starts to run perfect. All the way home (50 mile trip). The light stayed on all the way, but the car ran like nothing had been wrong for the past month.
What could this be?
Thanks.

If you let off the gas for awhile, would it continue for a second or two, and then feel normal once it stopped bogging down?
Similar effects to a clogged EGR possibly?

Re: Check engine light comes on, problem goes away??? (Marrku)
Check out my past thread when I had my EGR valve problem.

Easiest way to check this may be to disconnect the EGR valve and drive it, and see if the problem persists. I still have mine disconnected, though I'm not sure of the effects, other than a little less mpg.
