Nevermind...

Keep building your car the way you want and have fun, but don't expect any love for it outside of the slammed or low offset type threads.

not looking for love, for that there is no need, not getting serious answers to questions was my issue, anyway for sh**s and giggles, what exactly have I done to my car that will shorten its life span and negatively effect its performance, please discuss sighting specific examples

Listen we are a tight bunch here, most of us known each other for years. We all strive for a clean Ef, then here comes you w this rusty bs which is basically a mockery of the Ef chassis to us, and then you wonder why no one responds to you.

I'll just give 1 specific example:

Have you taken the time to replace all suspension bushings/bearings/ends/joints/etc? Do you realize how quickly 20 year old suspension parts wear when you change suspension geometry to the extent you have/plan to? Do you realize how worn suspension components negatively affect performance?

But I pretty much fully agree with Boosted's statement above, we all strive for a clean EF.

I remember back in the day when everyone did body kits and neons and 17" & 18" wheels on their civics…things that we call "rice". There were those that looked down on them and talked smack about their cars, but it was you who were into that fad. Now that we've gone through that phase and have since developed a minimalistic approach to our cars now, another fad has since popped up. But this time it is us who are talking down about their cars and passing judgment. It's just a cycle that keeps repeating, but I personally don't care. I give my opinion and move on. Our cars are a blank canvas in which we project our art. We can't expect everyone to like it but it gets real annoying to constantly bash his ride when we all show the progress that we're making on our cars. Even more-so when they're asking for help and the question gets ignored in favor talking about his car.

i came to this thread b/c i thought it was about our shared interest in our cars, no matter how we personalized it. i didn't know our cars had to look or be modified a certain way in order for us to accept them. On that's note, I'll be unsubscribing for a while, maybe things will have changed by the time i find this thread again.

rusty panels = slower car .. duh. and those fender mirrors will definitely hurt your 1/4 mile time as well. i mean jesus, didn't you ever learn aerodynamics? rookie move..

lol

i personally dig the car man.. if they can't appreciate the work put in because it's not their cup of tea, then ef'em. stupid closed minded people like that are the ones that are "ruining the scene"

my only nitpick (based on personal preference only) is that i think the rust has gotten a little too heavy.. i personally like to see a fair amount of bare metal as well. but that's a balance that's hard as hell to maintain

as to your question.. have you looked inside the bumper skin itself? my front bumper had markings where the factory fogs would go.. maybe the rears do as well?

I do realize, in fact that is why it is taking me so long to bag it even though I have all of the air ride components already, I am collecting all the parts i will need to pull all of the suspension off down to the chassis and replace with all new

and boosted, do you disagree that besides the deck lid and front fenders (which are easily replaceable and do not negatively effect the chassis) that the car is actually much cleaner than most? And have I given reason to believe that I do or intend on doing any kind of shotty work? Because I put a great deal of time and effort into making sure that everything I do to it is done correctly and well and go out of my way to see that no corners are cut

I just turned 27 and I've been wrenching on EFs for 8 years.

Justin, I pretty much agree with what you said. The intentional rust is a mockery IMO.

what I thought going in, also blu pleas don't unsubscribe because of all this, I know I haven't been in here long but plenty long enough to know that you are one of the most helpful and level headed guys here, and undoubtedly an asset to the group, people can't help their preferences, its just the whole keeping things like that to ourselves that seems to escape us

It's not hate aimed at being different, it's aimed at ruining a dying breed. Too many are falling apart, being junked, rusting to ****, and falling to other general disrepair, simply because they are 20+ year old econoboxes, to go out and intentionally butcher a fine specimen.

2damnlow- I think what you have here is some old dudes who want to steer you in the correct direction "atleast correct to them"

I also am outside the norm of what most consider the way a EF should be built "one of the last Effers to still have a body kit". But to me rusting a car and doing some of the mods you do it seems to be destroying the car rather then fixing up the car up which I cannot grasp really. I look at as the same way as I look at Vdubs with the whole rust thing. Maybe I just dont get "It" anymore.

thank you for your support but i must say, lively and spirited debate is fine but I don't want to have spawned any actual argument here, keep in mind that when the dust clears we are all still here for the same reasons

I have never, and will never take place in an internet argument. Really don't care enough about some random screen name's opinion enough to do so. Debate however? Love it.

2damnlow.... Do what you do, but this IS the internet. Doesn't matter what any of us do, there will always be someone to "hate" on it.

its fine if people "hate" that is what the internet causes in most cases, im not upset with anyone, I am however glad to see how our little debate has brought out most in the thread, goes to show that it is alive as ever

we're here because we love ef's .. i've had several over the years (bought my first crx back in 94) and i've seen how trends have changed over the years. i've also seen how people from the previous trend groups have treated the guys that had adopted the newer trend. it's a never-ending cycle of bs..

whether your car is jdm inspired, fitted with more fiberglass than most boats, or a stickerbombed rust bucket ; they're all the same underneath.. why does that have to effect the way we treat each other on a personal basis? don't hate because someone expresses themselves differently than you do.

if someone asks for help, why do we base our decision on whether to be useful or not on what the outside of their car looks like? it's like auto-racism.. and as dumb as that sounds, it's even dumber in practice.

/soapbox .. sorry, it's just a stupid thing to divide a community over

This is pretty much my problem with this whole VW inspired bare metal "trend". The stretched tire low offset thing is just an extension of this idiocy. To answer the question about how you are ruining your car. Introducing rust via rusty fenders, and trunk spreads rust to the rest of the car the parts are attached to. It tends to spread like cancer. The low offset wheels are harder on the ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, and suspension bushings. Not to mention the tires sticking out throw road debris around putting chips in the paint and introducing yet more rust, and destruction. At least you aren't running extreme camber. That trend exponentially increases wear on suspension components, and especially with the CV axles. Which is another issue of riding around with slammed suspension bouncing off bump stops.
