I'm not aware of it being done well very many times. Sure, plenty of rattle can jobs, but not real one's like the R6 or R1 in Raven Black.

What does a quality flat black paint job cost? An actual paint job, like the Skunk2 DC5, not primer. I know I can't get an exact price, but is it more or less expensive than your typical metallic/pearl paint job? I think it would give the car a down-to-business attitude.
</TD></TR></TABLE>
I have looked into buying some low sheen paint for doing trim pieces and what they told me at the paint store is that its hard to get consistant results when painting satin finishes. A true flat black might be a different story than a satin finish though so I dont know.
I'm sure there has to be some brand of paint that is used for flats and satins because its used alot on the hot rods. Try lurking around in some of the hot rod forums to see what they are using. I would like to know as well!!

yeah I might be burning oil again. If this 3rd engine doesnt last I dont know what I'm going to do. I might go fully built 2 liter if I have to rebuild again! It depends on how much spending I can do without my girlfriend noticing!
On a side note, I wouldnt mind having a bone stock ITR motor that I can get BAR'd. It sucks driving around knowing a cop can take your **** away if they wanted to.

The first motor cracked a sleeve, spun all the main bearings and 2 rod bearings, and the 2nd the rings never seated and it was burning through a quart an hour. I switched maching shops and thought I would have better luck but maybe not. I havent even done a compression check on this engine because I'm too afraid to find out if I have to drop more money into it!

my understanding was, its basically a base/clear paintjob but with a dulling agent in the clear that gives it that "matte" finish. That being the case, its at least as much work as a regular base/clear paintjob, if not harder because with regular clear if its got orange peel you can at least knock it down by wet sanding...I'm not sure how that would work out with intentionally dull clear coat. *edit* and if you haven't run across it, duplicolor sells "trim paint" as well as a company called "SEM" that you can buy at an automotive paint supply store. Works pretty nice for trim, i repainted my mouldings and door handles with it.

Yeah that's what the guy at the paint store was telling me about the paint but the dulling agent isnt consistent. Temperature and humidity play a big part in how dull or shiny it turns out.
Yeah I know about the trim paints, that's what I had on my car now but I was looking for something more durable to rock chips and uv damage. The SEM stuff only lasts about 3 months in the sun before you have to repaint.

i believe you could get a nice even coat with a satin black. i had spray painted my old 1957 VW bug roof with satin black with multiple light even coats and it came out really well. i ended up selling the car a few months later. but it did have an even color. that sucks to hear that your motor is going out ben. hey, at least you made it to the meet and back. if you go to the right smog place (one that doesnt know hondas well) and you should be fine. just play it off. damn mechanism, another motor?? i remember you telling me about the other motors after you had wiped down your engine bay at the meet.
its been klicking for months now. and than driving back it just cut out five times, the rpm's dropped to zero and than back up, and so forth, if anyone knows what this might be it would help. im thinking something to do with the dizzy, or coil? ill look up some procedures tomorrow and hopefully find the problem and band aid it till i can get something to replace it. the meet was super fun for me, i got to put a name to all the screen names, and just wondered around picking up knowledge here and there. im hoping to make it up to the crxpo in nor cal.
