The Official EF Discussion Thread
this is what im looking for in a aircooled vw. i was drawn to the ae86 by RWD, lightweight, great handling, a/c, MPG, looks. im not a drift fanboy. i like my cars to be full interior.

Surprisingly, a lot of people who don't know much about cars buy into certain brands because of hype or popularity. Not because they have a true passion for the car or scene. The same could be said for a lot of the Honda scene too though. I mean, look at the whole JDM trend or road racing.
The JDM trend is obvious and a lot of kids buy Honda's, street race, and pretend they know what they're talking about when it comes to mechanics when in actuality they know close to nothing/just pay a shop to do everything for them. A lot of these people sell out or leave the scene in a few years.
The whole road racing scene is great and I want to get into it someday (when money and time permit), but I'm still surprised at how many people who have gone to say one track day just mindlessly bash on cars that were built with road racing parts but don't get raced on the track.
In the end though, there are always going to be idiots, haters, flamers, etc. that come and go but the true enthusiasts will stay regardless of what their motive is with their car
. I've met a fair share of good people who build show cars and people who build racecars in the Honda scene (also a lot of idiots/scammers/lowballers lol). Oh yeah, and I would get rid of the car too if it had $408 in registration fees haha
-- End rant.
Does anyone know the going price on a set of spoon twinblock calipers used/good condition right now? Getting together a 5 lug setup
</TD></TR></TABLE>
Amen. But, just b/c u sell your Honda doesnt mean you arent/werent passionate about them. Theft rate is a huge concern so i dont blame anyone for wanting to "get out" due to that specific reason. However, most are in it for the fame and most are not true car enthusiasts.
Spoon calipers are in the $1000 range (used) arent they?

Thermal R&D 3" Turbo Exhaust

RBC it. I think I figured out how to fit it. When I get my car back from paint we will see. Get a proper header, and type-R cams can be had hella cheap, so get some of those too. Also swap out those doors for some 88s, and get her tuned, and you should have a few lengths on him.
Also I want to hear sound clips, or vids of the 3" Thermal with the K. I am trying to decide between changing my 2.5" Thermal for a 3", or going custom aluminum 3". Also are you running a cat?

Hey guys, just thought i would check in for a minute. I just bought a new car!! Dont worry i still have the EF. Heres the garage line-up:
- 2008 Suzuki Sx4 touring awd
- 90 hatch - In peices...
- 92 sedan beater
- 87 VW cabby - lawn ordament status
Im pretty stoked, the suzuki is a moderatly fun economy car that will replace the 92 sedan beater. I plan on attending one more autox in the beater on the 18th, before it will be retired/parted/sold; as will the cabby. Anyone want a cheap beater(s)? In the mean time i will be continuing to work on the EF, and get it ready for her autox debut on 6/2. Still need a bunch of kinks worked out including: axles, tuning, vacuum lines, and countless other odds and ends.
Heres an old pic for those who dont know my EF:

True that about the theft and the fame. Ironically, the theft rate is so high right now because of the fame. People who can't afford parts or want to make a quick buck selling parts (to once again, people who want fame)
Yeah, I figured after searching around that they were that much. Oh well, gotta pay to play...time to start saving

Well it looks like I am missing the much anticipated Eibach meet this year. I have had nothing but problems with my car over the past 2 weeks, chewed wiring, oil leak, rat **** in the blower unit, and now it looks like I have another bad distributor. This will be the 4th unit that I have had from DK in the past 2000 miles.
I have had so many distributor issues in the past that I would usually keep an extra in the trunk with the tools to change it out, but my extra one is bad too! I'm hoping DK with give me a full refund for both the units and I can look for something else. I would buy an oem one again but I'm sure that will go out too. I'm thinking of the MSD billet distributor as it can handle high revs. Short of going with a standalone ecu and COP's I havent found anything else that's an alternative solution.
-End Rant- </TD></TR></TABLE>
theres something thats killing the dizzys...it would be pretty crazy if you had 4 bad units from DK, i have bought 2 dizzys through them and have never had a problem...maybe something thats wrong with the wiring is shorting them out or something

i might be able to get you a sound clip from inside my car. im running no cat. it gets real raspy at partial throttle around 4000rpms. other than that everything is cool. i rarely get to 4000rpms unless there's a lot of throttle behind it.
If i do an intake manifold i think i'll just have import builders port out the stock manifold. when i get my roll bar and harnesses i was planning on gutting my stock doors to make up some of the difference the roll bar adds. is that the same as getting '88 doors?

A sound clip would be awesome. I love the sound of my 2.5" Thermal with the K, sounds way better than the 5 motors connected to it previously. Not raspy at all. Then again I am yet to here a bad sounding K car.
Depending on how much you gut the 89+ doors will still probably be heavier, but marginally. I know my 89 door was heavier than my 88's that was even with the seatbelt stuff removed. Then I took the impact beams out, now they weigh almost nothing at all. So yeah gutting them will work, and be close to the same. I personally hate the newer doors. Stupid passengers always slam the seatbelt in the door with them.

This is definately a possibility. I have never been happy with the tuck harness I made, I was in a hurry when I made it and now I guess I'm paying for it. However, even before I did the engine swap I was blowing trough dizzy's as well.
Maybe someone could chime in on what kind of wire issue it could be whether its a short or bad ground. I would think if it was a short it wouldnt work right away but maybe if the ground wasnt quite right it would cause excessive heat or something, I dont know, I suck when it comes to electrical **** in cars.
I will most likely have Ryan build me a new harness so maybe this will clear up the issue.
Another possibilty is that is causing dizzy failures is I rev high all of the time. Every time I drive my car I cant help but rev it to 9k+ for some fun. I built the motor to handle the high revs but maybe the dizzy cant handle it! I have read about some guys drilling holes in the bottom of the cap to vent it out a bit.

***** do i hafta show a picture of a k20 do get a response in this forum? lol i got 4x114 R susp. was wondering if i wanna get lca's,swaybars, sub frame braces or anything susp. related for that matter, can i get parts fab'ed for dc's or do i get **** for ef's??
What do you mean by 4x114 R suspension? Are you also running the LCA's off of the ITR or are you using EF LCA's? Stick with all EF parts, but the hardware you're going to have to get will vary. Depends if you're running 88 LCA's or 89-91 LCA's
