Probably financially
6k or more going into a swap is alittle ridiculous for a stock 4 banger in my opinion
But i'd jump on one in a heartbeat if i ever had the chance.

just my opinion here, k is the thing of the future.. no arguing that, but that's a swap where you had better be committed to keeping your car... becuase the cost of that swap is going to get a person down to a point where it wouldn't be wise to sell the car.. ever. sure its fast, but a $6k motor swap doesn't add $6k worth of value to a car.

the fun factor.. if its not worth modding your car becuase you think it's not financialy ideal, you would be correct..

now if your car isn't worth while to you when you purchase it, you may want to rethink why you even bought it.

Look at the vehicles for sale, anything with a k in it is selling for more than 10 grand. People are trying to get what they invest in the car, and it just isnt happening. People looking for hondas generally dont have that kind of money for a car. Which makes it extremely hard to sell any car for over $6,000.

Steph is right, it's the fun I have in it and the fact that it keeps taking less and less time to get down the track, that's why I do it

And we are debating doing one at the shop. We were about to build an all motor H for Larry's car but now starting to think about K20R. Who knows, we will decide this Sat.

pretty much... people with hondas are looking at fast for cheap.. $10k+ for a 10+ year old honda isn't cheap. the k is an awesome motor, but taking a cheap car and putting an expensive motor in it jsut isn't practical for anything but keeping the owner happy.

I've dropped so much cash on cars, and honestly if I didn't I would probably have had that g35 by now... but I don't regret any of the money I've wasted on cars, cars were my hobby over the years and my hobby kept me happy.

I'll still probably mod the next car regardless of what I claim not to do... it's a sickness really..

i beg to differ. my bf has built 3 k motors in 3 different hatches. selling 2 for over $10,000. and finally blowing the 3rd, and parting out the good pieces of the motor making his money back. k is in. people will pay for it.

they'll pay for the motor.. the chassis is almost irrelevant price-wise. like I said the k is in, the swap however does almost nothing for the value of the car overall.

Well i dont know a whole lot about the cali scene..but i do know that its alot more than the east coast. Hondas are few and far between compared to there. There is a guy up in michigan selling a midori green ek with the cleanest k i have ever seen, 3 sets of wheels included with it. Tucked. New paint, Its mint. For 11k and people here just wont buy it, he has trying for months and months on various forums. I dont understand it. Its worth every bit of 11k. Im scared to ever try to sell my car.

oh there is... not arguing that. but being realistic, the people willing to pay that kind of cash rarely are able to buy cars like that.. buying a highly modded car with low blue book value = they pay with cash. its is why custom vehicles in general just don't sell quickly, its not from lack of intrest.. its from lack of intrest with the funds to back it up.

sadly, this is the reason why I will also have trouble selling my truck...

i have enjoyed reading the arguments and such about the subject at hand here.... and i have to go with charlie. i bought my car for the simple reason of happines. if i were to do a k swap, i would be happy.

here is a fine example of money you dont get back.... i went ALL the way with my 5 lug....

i NEVER plan on selling my white hatch.......

............and you cant discount the "PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH" factor as steph put it

Hahaha yeah I was building my hatch strictly to have a quick street car and capable of handling itself at the track. K-swap as sexy and nice it is, esp. the ******* tranny, it was just an idea and it's something I can probably do in the following month's. But at the same time I need to grow up sorta and buy a more grown up car, and I wouldn't mind selling my hatch for the right cash offer as stated already.

Can you keep AC with a K-Swap? Anyone seen that yet? And good luck on your "level-up" cars, to those of you who are thinking about selling your hatches to get something a little more sophisticated. I thought I needed to do the same thing, and now I am looking to sell my STi, after a little more than a year and a half later! Hehe, I think I just miss being able to modify my car with new parts all the time. I have to spend too much on the car payment, and insurance, and what not, and I just can't seem to save enough to do major mods on either my STi or S13. It sucks, but by getting rid of the STi, I can save a LOT of money, and also now that I drive a company van daily, I can save on gas at the same time. I need to take full advantage of my current situation. Who knows, maybe if I am responsible, I can save up enough to move out!

Peace to all! Been awhile too, since I've been here last!
