you cant feel any difference in the gearing? im pretty sure the gsr gears are shorter haha. If it doesnt make that much of a difference ill just try to find a b16 cable transmission

The long geared YS1 is the longest B-series transmission you can get and the GS-R/RSi/XSi YS1 is near identical to a 96 spec ITR transmission. It's a night and day difference.
The day I got my car back with the XSi swap (w/ short geared YS1), I was in 5th gear cruising on the freeway and kept wanting to shift into what I thought should be 4th gear. 5th gear in a short YS1 feels like 3rd gear in a long YS1.
I wouldn't recommend getting a pre-YS1 B16A transmission. There is absolutely NO WAY to get new replacement parts for them. With a YS1 case (short or long), you can use gearsets from any other B-series transmission and find all of the replacement parts (gears, synchros, countershaft).
ok, cause someone is willing to sell me a complete b20 motor with a ys1 gsr transmission with a stage 1 clutch, he said if i pick up both he'll give it to me for $700, think imma jump on that offer then

Also, there is no way to verify that the YS1 is from a GS-R and short geared by just looking at it. Just FYI. You don't want dude stiffing you by selling you a long geared YS1.
yeah i understand, hes from the same city im from so i dont think it'll be to hard relocating him if that does happen. It was originally 500 for the motor and 300 for the tranny, which is about right, he lowered it 100 if i pick up both
