Default what type of clutch is needed for 400 + hp?

So im doing a turbo gsr... and currently it has a 6 puck sprung clutch with a ACT 7.5 lb flywheel.

Its starting to show signs of slippage so it will need replacing before the turbo setup goes on... what type of clutch setup should i be using for 400 whp? and is 7.5 flywheel too light for turbo?

p.s. dont say tilton twin disk.. i cant afford it lol

You could go for the FX400 by CLutchmasters, or even the Hypersingle by EXEDY (Don't know your budget), but I've used both on our 400whp+ turbo cars, and I can say that even my wife can drive it without any issues or complaints. Holds good torque, too.

competition stage 5, with or without the heavy pressure plate. 4 puck unsprung/sprung

I ran the normal stage 5 unsprung in my car with 450whp daily driven for almost 3 years and 493whp on race gas.

its not overly expensive, but it holds Amazing!

I'm at 415whp(Dynapack) right now. I was running an Action 2ks(kevlar coated steel disc w/HD pp), which slipped the second pass on dr's back in August. Then went up to the ACT 6puck sprung disc along with the Action2ks heavy duty pressure plate. So far so good, but I have yet to run the car on slicks with this combo. What brand 6puck sprung disc are you using?

x2. i'm using the stage5 4puck sprung with the heavier plate. 460hp with 337tq never slipped. stock peddle feel IMO also.

yeah heavier flywheel helps keep rpm's up between shifts. lightweigth flywheels are a worthless imo. How are you slipping a 6 puck without a turbo, no offence but do you drive liike an animal and powershift etc.. ? just asking cause i have an ebay 6 puck in my car and im making good power and it doesnt slip. so im just curious what youve done to this clutch to make it slip on a NA b series LOL. possibly have a bad rear main leaking oil onto it ?

comp stage 4 will hold but the stage 5 will hold better, also look into spec stage 3+ or stage 4/5. The clutchmaster fx400 is a nice clutch, i had one in my old hatch with over 400whp and it held very well and very streetable too

bought the disc used... plus i beat the crap out of it, plus i think my flywheel mating surface is warped.

my clutch engagement point is significantly different every time i take off and it chatters sometimes...

no contamination on it though rear main is brand new and i removed the inspection cover to check for signs of oil residue already

Look at torque ratings, not hp.

comp clutch goes off Hp. Not tq. you can get a competition stage 5 4puck sprung without the heavier pressure plate for 350 or less. go that route. and you'll be good.

u could get away with stock clutch if u drive it like my mom, but im sure your beating the **** out of it so thats a good thing but i cant give u a good clutch answer, but i can giv u a flywheel answer. realize that a lighter flywheel will slow down spool up time...because it has no inertia to spool up the turbo now it will rev faster which is good so theres pro's and cons

might rev faster.. will drop out of rpm and boost faster also. lightened flywheel for turbo is a no no in my book. but what did you posting have anything to do with the clutch opinion he asked for??

I'm using a Spec 3+ setup on an H22 hatch and only driving it on the street. 508 whp, 400wtq. holding well for 6 mos. so far (235/50/15s) Good points about heavier flywheels staying in boost better. I ran a lighter one thinking it would be easier on drivetrain.

I have an ACT xtreme pressure plate with unsprung 6puck, making 465whp and it holds f9.
