What is this ring for?.. Wastegate

Default What is this ring for?.. Wastegate

This metal ring came with my Tial 38mm wastegate.. I was wondering what it was used for and if I need it?

its used to seat the wastegate right, without that it won't build boost

yes you need it, it goue between the WG and the flange.

Well I have the wastegate on my car. Do you guys think this could be the problem to my leaky idles and not building up boost to the set spring pressure?

you will leak alot of boost without that.. that seals the vavle on the flange it wont fit alll the way until you tighten the bolts down.. you need to compress it

Thanks guys... I took my wastegate out and put it on.... It sounds great and holds boost and is faster now..

Without that ring in you can visually see right around the valve which would mean all that exhaust gas would pass right by, you'd constantly be bleeding off exhaust pressure through your dump tube instead of spooling your turbo.
