how far can you take a 38mm wastegate, safely???

Default how far can you take a 38mm wastegate, safely???

a friend is starting on his 2.0L turbo...and i'm helping him find parts...

what would you run for 500whp, wastegate wise? is the 38mm tial safe at that level, or shoudl he upgrade to something else???

and what spring would be the best spring to run around 10psi ish? i can't remember the specific spring rates...sorry

You don't want to run more than double the value of the wastegate spring, so you can't determine that until he decides how much boost he will run.

As far as wastegate sizing, directly from Tial's website: "Contrary to popular belief, larger higher HP applications do not necessarily require the largest wastegate available. The lower the boost pressure you are gunning for the larger your wastegate needs to be. An engine/turbo combination that is set to 25+psi has a smaller wastegate flow requirement than the same application set to 7 psi. This is because the wastegate is used to lower the boost not raise it, the lower the boost pressure is set the more flow the wastegate must allow."

Tial's website is correct. The 38mm will be fine.

35mm, 1 bar spring. 22psi on my srt4, very solid and controlled.

Pretty much the same here. 38mm wastegate / 1 bar spring / 23 psi.

i ran the tial 35mm...
ran 25-28psi made 441wheel...
worked like a champion!
saw some minor boos creep up top tho... id set to 25psi and end up at about 28psi
