What oil are you using? Searched
I did search, but didn't come up with much. There was one huuuge thread that explained oil very thoroughly. I'm half way done reading. I searched through the FI section and couldn't find anything. I did find one post in the civic forum, but it was for a stock civic. Anyways, what are you guys running? My friends here with saabs swear against Mobil 1 for life b/c it "thins out" way too much on dyno due to their hot engines. If that's true, then all synthetics should suck for them since synthetic oil molecules don't lose their viscosity. They say use Royal Purple, but there are some nightmare stories with FI setups on this oil. I've heard of amsoil and their 4ball test, but some ppl say that test can be disregarded. I'm currently on Mobil 1 5w-30 for the winter in New England. If you live in the area, or anywhere with similar temps, your opinions are that much more valued. Thanks for your input guys!

here is a recent thread
https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/anyone-ever-have-problems-rotella-t-oil-2458199/
and the best link in there
http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf
and a video of a similar test

BTW...I dont believe you really searched, because that thread is only a few days old and it has "oil" in the name, try a little harder next time

Re: What oil are you using? Searched
I DD drove mine while it was turbo'd (248whp), autox'd and tracked it. I used Pennzoil 10w-30 from the initial startup. I put in 4 quarts, got back 3.9 after 3K miles. This went on for 17K miles. Now my car is not turbo'd and I still use the same oil. I'd go with synthetic if I was at a higher horsepower or if it was a dedicated track car. Pennzoil and Castrol have been great for all my vehicles.
I saw the thing with Mobil 1 when I used it prior to rebuilding my car. I got much less back after 3K miles and it seemed like it broke down.

Please elaborate! Always hoping to learn you know! LOL. . .
Oh, and I had noticed a fairly rapid reduction in hot oil pressure with Mobil 1 5w30 I put in for the winter. I had oil pressure problems with it in my VW GTI way back in the day too. I'm not all that likely to use much more of it.

Think about any oil test you've ever seen. They're not based on run time on the oil, they're based on how well the oil does it's job.

That's true, it's just that I'm not sure I've ever seen an oil test that was valid. . . There always seems to be something screwed up about any test that's ever out there, and I don't know of any I've seen that were conducted in a truly impartial fashion (that weren't purported to be based on flawed testing). ? Confusing.

Mobile1 or Royal Purple. I've used various oils, though. Those are just the ones I'm currently running through my systems as this point.

I get deals on Royal Purple from a friend who's a manager at a parts store. 5 Quarts for $20. Which isn't bad at all, considering it costs over $7 a quart.
