yeah that gas. I think you check it with a special tool. You suck up some coolant in a tube with these ***** in it. If the ***** float or sink tells you whether you need to change out the fluid or not AKA carbon monoxides in the coolant or not.
whoops... i forgot to mention that in my post. this tool is available at NAPA.

How can the motor get hotter when the engine is turned off ?

Heat = thermal energy. Turn the motor off and the temperature will go down.
The coolant does'nt circulate anymore, cause the water pump is not working. Therefore the heat can not transported which is still *in the engine*

There won't be any extra heat though... just the heat will not be spread through the cooling system when the motor is turned off. If there is /no/ coolant in the motor, the best thing you can do is shut the car off and let it cool down.

Okay, the engine will not getting hotter like it is, but will the engine cool quicker down when it is running and the water pump pumps the coolant thru the radiator? I think it does.

If its overheating due to mechanical failure such as blown HG etc, then keeping
it running will just make it overheat more.
