Default Wastegate operation?

Hi I just have a quick question. I have my dump tube running open loop right now and during normal driving it sounds like a small exhaust leak coming out of the. Dump tube. Is this normal? I hear it open all the way up when I reach full boost. I Am worried about the small amount that I hear while driving

B18 b1 turbo cams with 7 lbs spring in wastegate

Thanks. keV

That's normal, since the wastegate is opening into the atmosphere. venting out that exhaust is very aggressive and loud.

So it's normal while driving just around town even keeping it out of boost. I mean it just sounds like a small exhaust leak. I figured it would stay completly closed til you reach the 7psi.

Yeah it is and so is the valve seat. It is leaking all the way back to the end of the dump tube. Brand new rev hard wastegate.

Yes I have triple checked them it is leaking past the valve in the wastegate it is sealed at idle but when taking off from a stop it will leak past the wastegate. As if the valve is opening

It shouldn't be sounding like a leak if you aren't in boost. When it starts creating desired boost the gate will begin to open up and sound something like an exhaust leak. Under normal driving conditions it should not sound like that.

If you create any kind of boost with a light spring you will crack the wastegate. If you're opening the wastegate under vacuum you've got other problems.
