turboedit help...
i know that while using the hack, it manipulates the map sensor readings and can cause the timing to advance, but i wanted to know if I use the hack, but enable the boost retard function on turboedit, will the hack still cause timing issues? I was thinking about adding -.75 boost retard, but using the vafc to tune the fuel because i dont have a laptop to tune off of, and there is nobody in hawaii that knows how to use turboedit...so will this be safe? Is the boost retard function on turboedit the same thing as using a msd btm? any help would be appreciated.

Just tune as close as you can with turboedit. Put it on a dyno and do it yourself, you can keep reburning chips untill you get them right. but yea if you run a boosted map, you can use vafc to fine tune, but I would pull more like .9 deg/lb out because you don't know how much you are going to be playing with it. I would just tune straight off turboedit, no reason not too.
let's see...
you dont need a laptop to tune with turboedit, you just need a computer, a chip burner and of course some chips
Do you have a wideband? You cant really tune without one of those but I didnt see you mention it.
What I used to do when I first started out with TurboEdit (before any kind of datalogging) is I would go out for a ride and try to hit all sorts of spots in the fuel map, and I would pay attention to what RPM I was at, what Load (boost/vacuum guage) I was at and what the AFRs were reading when I was at that spot. I would try and hit 4-5 spots (and even write them down sometime to be sure I remembered). Then I would come home and make changes in those specific areas, reburn and then go out for another drive. Sometime I would burn 2-4 chips...and see how much larger or smaller increases in 'problem' spots would affect them...and choose the best.
Its really prety easy once get get going...and then like someone said, after you get a decent tune down, take her to the dyno, see if you can get some fine tuning down. Negotiate ahead of time that you will be installing TurboEdit on one of their shop computers....hell, see if they will give you discounted dyno time if you show them how to use it. Shops are always trying to expand their horizons.
I also made a little Tuning with TurboEdit wirte-up.
Hopefully it might help you some more.

You really dont need the AFC any more, you could sell it and maybe buy a nice Electronic boost controller or put it towards a wideband (if you dont have one)

well, i have a wideband...so my plan was just to street tune it...in my opinion, playing around with the vafc is a lot easier than changing around the fuel maps via computer, so thats why i wanted to keep the vafc, but again, will running a boost retard program on turboedit prevent the timing advance with transistioning into boost with the hack?
haha...i didnt design it, im just a TE ***** and do a lot of the 'support' on it
to answer your question about the hack...if you use the boost retard maps of TE, you have to use the boost fuel maps as well. you have to create an entire grid...thus no longer using the 'hack' basically.
make a basemap using TurboEdit...spend two hours tuning it with the chip & computer...and then if you find spots later, tweak them with the AFC
