Default ... turbo sohc... what is the best block/head combo to start off with???

... i am looking at either the d16z6 or the d16y8... are there any other blocks i should consider that are just as good if not better?... what about hybrid setups like a d16z6 with a y8 head (or the other way around)... or a mini-me... or non-vtec sohc (i read somewhere that they might be better candidates for boost)... also, it must fit in crx and still have creature comforts like a/c and p/s... lemme know... thanks...

D16z6 block. The bottom end is stronger. The head has lower port angles, allowing for better high rpm breathing. To make the y8 head flow as much you'll need to do extensive work to make it breath up top.

I agree with the z6 head flowing better than the y8 but I have seen no evidance to prove the block is stronger than the y7, y8, or the a6. You can probably find a z6 cheaper than a y8 and that is also a benifit. I am still in the process of adding the z6 head to my y7 and I am hopeing to see some decent gains with that head. Another thing to consider is the intake manifold. The y8 flows signifigantly better than the z6 manifold. Just things to consider. As soon as get to finishing the head, I am going to the dyno and the 1/8 track. I am going to post with pics (if I can figure it out?) and finally show my low budget, farm engineered, mustang prowler.

JDM D15B SOHC VTEC- 1.5 civic VX bottom end ( thicker and stronger rods) and better stroke ratio ( as said by mistabone SOHC king !) and D16Z6 head. puts out same HP as a D16Z6 minuts liek 2 LB FT torque
